Yea, thats our offense in a nutshell. We dont
really have anyone that can consistently score
inside the paint unless our center & forwards are
much taller then the other team which usually isnt
the case. Oden next season should help some tho.. .
But I believe we need another big who can score inside
even once we get Oden back & healthy. The Blazers are
also in need of a true scorer. Roy isnt really one but he has
been put in that roll and has done a good job. Roys mentality
is to pass and get others going first then look for his own shot.. .

Not just an inside man, we need a brute. This front line is entirely too soft on the boards.

I am posting this as a public apology if I offended anyone using the term jailblazers. I joke around a lot and it wasn't meant to be offensive.

I think jailblazers sounds cool and I know it was the term used when mo cheeks was around but in all seriuosness..its not like I said toronto craptors or something offensive in that form.

jailblazers isn't an insult imo..it just sounds 'hood'

sorry

/end apology

I think many of you are getting overly optimistic. That seems to be everyones heartfelt answer to every problem on this team. Not only is our PG situation in need of improvement, but our banger/inside scorer problem. We can't put all that pressure on Oden and his mircofrac'd knee.

Oden will be that Big Man in the middle. No pressure, he just needs to play the way he does, and we will have our answer in the middle. Especially w/ 'billa coming off the bench! :wavefinger: 8)

Our biggest issues are 1) Rebounding, mostly defensive 2) Active interior defensive presence

A hell of a lot more then PG play.. IMO.

teams get tired on road trips...that applies to both young and veteran teams.

And this wasn't just a standard back-to-back. This was the 2nd back-to-back in a 5 games in 7 night stretch, that started with a double overtime game.

Almost all of portland's opponents have had 2 or 3 days to prepare for portland. Not a single one will play portland on the 2nd of their own back-to-back. That's quite rare for a 7 game road trip.

Why in the bloody heck can't we put that pressure on Oden? He came into the draft as the best big man prospect since Tim Duncan. He was drafted over a player that was a consensus future superstar in Durant. He was picked precisely because KP felt that Oden was a player to lead this team to multiple championships. If we can't put pressure on him to perform like he is capable of performing, then why do we even keep him? We have high expectations for him, but damnit we should have high expectations for him and I'm so sick and tired of people wanting to coddle the guy. We are not trying to rush him back precisely because we want to be sure we have eliminated the microfracture issue, and given the size and location of his repair there is zero reason to use that as a crutch for him. He has the personality and work ethic along with the obvious phsyical gifts to be a monsterous force in this league, and people are treating him like he's a second rounder who had a hot five game stretch and is now being given his first shot at starting in the league.

ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Thanks. But you know--I forgot a key point that the Boston Globe article in that other thread reminded me of: when we pile expectations on Oden, we're not really putting as much pressure on him as we think. After all, with Roy and Aldridge and th rest of the talent, all we are asking him to do is fulfill his promise. When we drafted him, our hopes were that he would carry the franchise, but now it is clear that the "supporting cast" can carry the franchise and he can just play his game to make it all that much better. He is the franchise center that doesn't have to be the franchise player for the team to succeed, and I don't think the NBA has had one of those since Kareem retired. The fact is that he solves the problems we talked about without having to carry the franchise on his back, but by simply being on the court being Greg Oden.
