Same is true for young guys like Sharpe. You can hold onto youth sometimes for too long and then resign them to deals they don't live up to.
I still believe Simons is and was tradable, but the price needs to be fair and that could mean lower than Cronin wants to accept. Same with Grant.
Ayton's value probably has been pretty low, but also, I'm not convinced the Blazers have ever been wildly motivated to move him.
Yeah, I agree, this all about what the market is willing to pay, and the fact is that Cronin has been asking for too much and appears unwilling to move off the price he sets. We can only infer this by the information that has leaked regarding POR so far, which has backed this up.
Asking for (2) 1st's for Grant
Stating that Simons is not available
RW3 for unprotected 1st
Multiple media mouthpieces of the Blazers, stating Cronin will not move off his price for a player
Cronin saying they like the team they have and don't feel they need to make a deal
Sinons is tradeable
Grant is tradeable
RW3 is definitely tradeable
even Ayton, is tradeable
it all boils down to what Cronin is willing to accept, and he clearly seems to lack the ability to pivot in a deal. It is apparently just his price or nothing.
Look forward to seeing POR trade these guys for pennies on the dollar or re-sign them to above market deals.
Thybulle is the epitome of Cronin's dumb strategy.
- Match an overpriced contract from DAL.
- By doing that they take their potentially available space under the luxury tax from $15mil to $4mil, basically taking them out of the "We will take your bad contracts for assets" game
- Watch Thybulle possibly walk in FA this offseason (he has a PO), meaning they re-signed him, taking up valuable cap space and then will possibly let him walk for nothing. The "concept" behind retaining an asset is to get something of value back for them, not to kill your cap space and then get nothing for him
But hey, we are witnessing Croninomics 101
