Grant for Middleton dead, but likely was never alive to begin. Not sure Cronin even would do that.

If we are using this as a gauge I think jerami has negative value

I would say he probably does, but I'm also not sure how motivated Cronin is to move him anyway right now.

Also, there was some salary considerations here they made. Kuz got them under the 2nd apron, he also has a declining contract and less years on his deal than Jerami. Both he and Jerami are having bad years, so if the stats are the same, of course you go with the guy with a better contract.

It's just agitating, we gave jerami a contract we all knew was horrendous. We made a stupid promise to an agent and the reality is that very same agent would drop us in a second if it was more beneficial to his client. The power of agents and players has far exceeded a mutually beneficial relationship with teams at this point and it is what it is, but why make that promise to bid against ourselves on that contract for jerami, who isnt close to all star level? It drives me nuts tbh

Enough chatter on this to keep Zach Lowe away from his NBA sabbatical...

I must have missed it, but why is Lowe on an NBA sabbatical?

Yeah sounds like something he'd do, or perhaps even keep moving the goal posts to the 2026 deadline at the rate he's going

This is appearing to be a very busy trade deadline. All these teams making moves and Cronin is really just going to just sit on his hands and do nothing, unbelievable

Look forward to another press conference, of him saying the exact same things he said three times already

You forgot to add:

We place a high value on our culture

We need more time to evaluate these players

We think these players can take additional steps and want to see what those steps are before we make any decisions

Bucks may not be done. POR should have done this deal IMO, AJ Johnson is a young player (20), he was a 1st round pick in the 2024 draft and had been playing pretty well at the G-League showcase

Nice move by DET, used an exception to absorb Martin and netted (2) 2nd's and they still have cap space to absorb another deal, acquiring assets, it is what good GM's do

This was an expected move by BOR and HOU got a 2nd round pick out of it. Remember LY when Cronin traded a 2nd (will never convey) for Banton?

Butler to PHX, Durant to GS & picks\young players to MIA??? With Durant going to GS, MIA should be able to get some decent value back

Aside from Warriors/Heat/Suns, the rest of the teams seem to be ducking the tax as their key motivator.

Certainly, that is a factor for some teams, it is most years.

The problem for POR is, that Cronin grossly misused cap space by matching on guy like Thybulle ($11mil) instead of letting him walk and then using that cap space to absorb contracts for assets like several other teams (CHA, WAS, DET, UTA, BRK) are all doing.

Thybulle could opt out of his deal at the end of the year (he has a PO) and POR could have gotten nothing for retaining him, and even if you believe that Cronin will trade him at the deadline, chances are it will bring back less than what he would have gotten with that cap space.

The reason to match was to retain the value of an asset, was it not? Certainly, not what he provides on the court, as he has not played all year and where would he even get minutes on this roster? Just a complete waste of an asset (in this case, cap space).

I'm still hopeful Portland will make a move.

Most likely it will be TL going to the Lakers, hopefully more than a handful of SRP.

There is a chance Portland could get involved in that 4-5 team swap that the GSW seem
to be trying to add Durant to their roster

What is frustrating is, take RW3 for example, if a team, let's say LAL is unwilling to give them a 1st, is Cronin asking what they ARE willing to give?

Could they get Knecht back instead for example? Or another player like Rui, that you could then trade for additional assets? OR involve additional players (Thybulle\Murray) or assets to try and get Reaves back? Probably not, but you can't get, what you don't ask for.

Does Cronin even actively try and work towards a creative solution? b\c it seems to me from everything reported that he sets a price on their players, and then refuses to move off that price. I dislike Pelinka as a GM, but he clearly finagled Luka from DAL, in a trade that evolved from a series of discussions, for a player that was probable not even on the table originally. I don't think Cronin does that UNLESS he is really trying to acquire a player.

You know another GM (besides Olshey) who overplayed his hand? Masai Ujiri in TOR and then he ended up having to trade away those players for a fraction of what he could have gotten earlier. That is the risk that Cronin is running towards, heck, he is already there. Simons\Ayton\Grant\Thybulle\RW3, their values are not going to go up in the offseason or at the next trade deadline, only down. These guys are not the caliber of Dame.

I would not be so sure given the new CBA.

Thybulle will be 28 next year, 29 when he is a FA in 26/27. He is a fringy rotational player on a good team. If a team is interested in him, he could turn down his $11 PO and then sign a multi year 3-4 year deal with that team at a lower rate, or a descending contract and end up better off financially

Imagine if it started at $11mil, then went to $8/$8/$8 for example. What guarantees does he have under the new CBA that he could get that in 26/27? Take a 1yr PO for $11mil and then see what he can get 2 seasons from now or opt out and secure $35mil for himself now. We will see what happens if he is still here next offseason, besides there is no room int he rotation for him here.

Here is the baffling part, they are going to have at least a 1st round pick next year, maybe (still a longshot IMO) even ATL top 10 protected 2nd, so they have to clear roster space eventually. They could always trade the 2nd away for cash again I guess? But, unless they trade away the 1st for a future 1st, they will need an open roster spot.

So this offseason, Banton is a UFA, Walker is an RFA, Rupert has a club option, Thybulle has a PO & Reath's contract for next year is non guaranteed. You would think he would at least want to trade away one or more of these guys to try and net some type of value back?
