Goodwin is the perfect 2nd round pick. All potential and no risk

I'd have no problem with this, if the Trail Blazers draft him just develop him for 2 years through training and the D-League and I think he becomes a fine player.

Since we own the stampede I could see Goodwin spending some time down there. Rice is definitely more ready to contribute immediately.

No thank you to Goodwin. I like Carter-Williams at 10 as another much needed playmaker. And Muscala and Nedovic as second rd targets.

I really am confused why people think MCW is a good prospect. He's not quick, a great shooter, or a great ball-handler. People like to talk about his BB IQ and floor vision, both of which are extremely over-rated IMO.

We already have a Goodwin on our team, his name is Williams.

No way we already have 2 really good play makers we don't need another one who can't shoot and has no bankable skills for a role player, he won't have the ball in his hand on our team, to high usage for my tastes.

I would love to be able to get him in the 2nd round. Seems like he would be great value with little risk at that pick. Certainly has holes in his game but kid can shoot it from distance.

First of all, we do not have 2 really good playmakers. Lillard is not more than average at his position, and I assume you mean the second is Batum - who is certainly above average at his position, but nowhere close to being able to run an offense.

Secondly, even with 2 good playmakers in the starting lineup, it is nice to have a 3rd playmaker off the bench.

Finally, while Goodwin certainly has his weaknesses, he is very young, has a great NBA body and projects to be a Tyreke Evans like player. A lot of people (including you) have Evan's on your free agent radar, if you can get a Tyreke Evans clone in the second round, that is good value.

GreenRiddler wrote:Good point on RFA's duster, I think we could get Evans for the right price. Even though he is a All-Star potential player you said teams wouldn't let go of, but the Maloofs are bleed cash, so we might be able to. LMA+Lillard+top6-7pick+Evans/Batum and spare parts, Leonard, E-will and Barton is really nice.

Is a second round pick the right value?

Well I made that statement with the opinion that MCW is a point gaurd and that alone. HE is gonna be done a disservice if people try to play him at the 2. Kind of like what Det is doing to Knight. He just doesn't bring alot to the table for what we are looking for, and hasn't proved he can do the things Reke has done in the NBA. We would have to develop him while Reke is already there. Even then he might not pan out.

I don't think BPA is the right way to go all the time. Look at last year with Barnes or Minny with D Wil.

Ill give anyone 5-1 that MCW will not be a rotation player in the NBA in 5 years.

Guy is about 95% chance of never contributing in this league.

That's a pretty bold statement. Now I'll admit I don't know a lot about McCollum, but his reputation as a combo guard that can take over games with his scoring is something the Blazers might be in need of off the bench in a sixth man role. But they also used Maynor in that role with Lillard sliding to shooting guard and it didn't look too bad as far as offence goes, but I would like to see better backcourt defence.

Is he worthy of the #10 pick? Only time will tell. But I also recall Lillard saying he is a fan of McCollum's and would welcome him as a teamate.

Personally I would like to see Portland get a player like Sefolasha, meaning a more than reliable combo guard that can come in to not only contribute on offence off the bench but also be a defensive stopper to cool off the other teams hot handed guard when needed.

I really like the idea of MCW next to Lillard. Im imagining an Iverson/Eric Snow type combo. MCW is reportedly a good defender and can dribble penetrate. That is like Tyreke, but with the strong chance of defense.

Here's the quote about their talks with POR regarding LMA from that article....

Varejao remains the top option for the Cavs at center, but don’t think team officials are just blowing off his recent injuries as a string of dumb luck. Instead, sources said the Cavs are greatly concerned about Varejao’s ability to stay on the floor, and are making it a priority to add depth in the frontcourt this summer because of it.

That will be easier said than done, of course, as most teams prefer to hang on to talented big men. The Cavs found this out first hand in exploratory talks with the Portland Trail Blazers regarding center/forward LaMarcus Aldridge. As already reported, those talks failed miserably.

Disagree with Noel and Karasev on there. Noel is too talented to not be a solid starter. Karasev has a great bloodline (his dad was the greatest Russian pg of all-time) and he is a deadeye jump shooter. Quality shooters are always needed in the NBA which is why he will be a quality 6th man/back up. Most of the guys you listed are late lottery/mid first round which is too late in the draft to consider them busts if they don't pan out.
