There's a massive... planet sized gap between "great" and "sucks" though. It's not awesome to get a solid/good player with the #3 pick... but that isn't out the window for Scoot. Great is extremely unlikely. But good is still attainable.

Fair. I'm just resisting the notion that coaching is a variable which, if changed, would be likely to unlock new levels in Scoot's game. He might not always suck, but that's going to have to follow from some significant skills development.

Scoot had a really good game last night

17pts - 9 assists- 1 TO - 3/3 from 3pt - 2/6 FT needs to be better

I think the offense flows way better when he is in there, particularly alongside Deni, both players are willing passers and move the ball around

Scoot’s offense is a work in progress, and boy does it need some work, the finishing in particular is most concerning IMO, b/c his speed & physicality is going to allow him to consistently get downhill on opponents, he just needs to be able to finish that with something positive, be it a layup/dunk/foul or pass to open shooters, and right now the finishing is not there, he is not drawing fouls as much as he is capable of, the passing can be lazy\telegraphed and his teammates more often than not cannot convert when he does make the right pass

Besides his finishing, he needs to work on his mid range game more, I think he had 1/2 shots in that range last night, those are going to be there for him.

I still think, good is on the table for Scoot. I know I keep saying this but he is only 20yrs old, that is the age that most young PG start their 1st year in the NBA and I think the coach\organization\team present significant headwinds for his development

When people compare him to Mudiay I get a little perturbed. Scoot has fundamental issues. But he has one of the better building blocks you can have... which is where he can get to where he wants on the court effectively. Mudiay never had that... he could barely beat his man in the halfcourt.

Scoot needs to work on his jumper.

Should ask this guy for lessons. Ya'll remember Herro? Ya'll said he was supposedly trash and Scoot was better? I remember.

I remember there was no market for him, just like Simons.

Your grumpy troll brain must be fogging your memory. I can't recall a single poster who said Scoot was "better" than Herro.

Now, would I trade Simons for Herro? Hell no...not given age, money, length of contract, or where the Blazers are in terms of rebuild.

The thing that is driving me nuts the most about Scoot isn't even these bad games.... it's that the guy can't seem to stay on the court long enough to stay in rhythm. Has a couple of good games.... out for 2 weeks with injury... comes back... sucks... and in a week or 2 he'll start to string together solid outings... and bam, down again.

Is what it is at this point.

watching Scoot is like playing bop-a-mole. He'll hit some three's but brick some easy lay-ins; He'll limit his turnovers but go 2-13 on FG's.

he has not been able to do anything, at all, consistently, except be disappointing. The gap between his pre-draft hype and his reality is as big as I can remember for any Blazer lottery pick since Telfaire

the development levels of Sharpe & Scoot are pretty depressing right now

So much agree with this. It's such a two-fold problem. One - like you mentioned - his injuries... he's trending into injury prone player label territory. Not sure what can be done about that tbh. He's following an impossible act with Dame, who, while not injury free his whole career, was largely pretty dependable and barely missed games until he started his late prime years.

Second, when he is back and healthy, Scoot largely has to keep coming off the bench because of Simons and Billups. The Blazers, Billups and Cronin need to **** or get off the pot with Scoot. I'm so tired of this situation they've kept themselves in ever since picking Scoot and trading Dame. The Simons issue is one of the most predictable problems in the world and I hate how slow the team has been to make a decision. Be proactive, not reactive.

If the team is just out on Scoot as a prospect, then move him as a chip in a bigger deal. Maybe as a way to get out of Ayton's contract. If they still believe in Scoot, get Simons off the team asap. I don't care about the return as long as they don't take on a longer year contract in return (but even that's negotiable based on what else is in the deal). Just get out of this weird purgatory no-mans-land that they're currently in.

As the primary piece in a Dame trade he was worthless to Portland who had taken Scoot third in the draft, taken Sharpe 7th the year before, had a very similar player to Herro in Simon's whose contract was better and a good defender in Thybulle. Three of those players play the same position as Herro. The Heat offer stunk to high heaven.

As a millennial who has spent too much time online my advice when you encounter a basement troll is to feel a moment of pity and move on as quickly as possible.

Yeah the heat offer was awful. The Bucks offer was infinitely better and 2-3 of those picks we got from dealing Dame are more valuable individually than all of the heat assets combined. Those 2 players the heat fans gloated about (and wouldnt trade 1 or either of depending on who you asked) don't look like anything special either, role players at best

Just to note: Herro was recovering from a broken shooting hand injury, and hadn't proved he was healthy, as Miami was trying to trade him to us for Dame.

STILL bitter Miami troll. ... as they're now having to deal with Jimmy Buckets... AGAIN.

Scoot's stats per month
OCT - 15.6 points 5.6 assists 3.5 rebounds FG% .441 TS% .557
NOV - 9.9 points 5.4 assists 2.6 rebounds FG% .402 TS% .472
DEC - 6.5 points 3.3 assists 2.3 rebounds FG% .233 TS% .373

Every single stat is trending in the wrong direction. Yikes!

Maybe Chauncey knew all along. We've been clamoring for Scoot to start to thoroughly examine what his long-term prospects for success are, but he is proving to be empty stats when he plays big minutes and just plain offense-destroying when he plays a minor role. About the only justification for his minutes at this point is serving as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Tank Command.

I dont know what the FO saw in Scoot. He’s a guaranteed bust. Even Telfair and Bayless had more potential than Scoot.

On a side note, he was cocky predraft and seems like the lack of ironing his skills is about to ruin his professional career

Team needs a quality lead guard and that isn’t Scoot Busterson.
