Ya. We are freaking Portland. We never draw FA's. We are almost always too good to get a high draft pick, and certainly will be for the enxt 5+ years. I dont care about injury history, you take the elite level talent when you can.

This is the kind of swing you have to take though.

Possibly but if it backfires we are in Armageddon type of cap hell

Honestly, I see this as more of something people freak out about more than it ever being a serious issues. Bad contracts get unloaded all the time by teams and the 4 year limit is a lot shorter than it used to be.

Money aside, if I was either Howard or Parsons Portland would be a good destination. With Lillard and CJ, Parson will have open space to square up and Dwight will have far greater space in the post. If they can rotate the ball with that lineup and seriously concentrate on finding the open man, they could be a very effective offense and extremely quick team on D.
I never thought I’d lead the NBA in rebounding, but I got a lot of help from my team-mates – they did a lot of missing.

Trade Davis (to clear cap)
Waive Alexander and Montero (to clear cap)
Sign Howard
Sign Parsons
Re-sign Crabbe (and go over the cap threshold)
Fill the rest of the roster with veteran's minimum players.

PG: Lillard / (Vet's Min)
SG: McCollum / (Vet's Min) / Connaughton
SF: Parsons / Crabbe / Layman
PF: Aminu / (Vet's Min) / Vonleh
C: Howard / Plumlee

This. If Olshey pulls this off, it'll easily be the biggest FA summer in the history of the Blazers. That right there is a huge win for the team, if injuries derail it, fine, but this is the only way the Blazers can hope of getting seriously better really quick.

Its not nearly as risky as some people make it out to be imo.

Maybe. But I remind everyone there will surely be another amnesty event in the new CBA next summer, which would help tremendously on the off-chance this is pulled off and then goes terribly wrong.

Yup but as we saw with Roy pa also doesn't like forking out money when he's paying for career ending injured players

I have to completely disagree with this notion, Oden2. He signed off on a max offer to Hibbert while he was paying that contract to Brandon still. And the Blazers tried last summer to pair up a maxed out LMA and Monroe. It simply didn't work out, that's all.

So it looks like if they trade Davis for a future 1st round pick they could retain Crabbe and sign Parsons/Howard (assuming Crabbe doesn't sign an offer 1st).

IDK if it would work but this is an interesting roster:

PG: Lillard/CJ and ?
SG: CJ/Crabbe/Pat
SF: Parsons/Crabbe/Layman
PF: Aminu/Vonleh
C: Howard/Plumblee

Maybe resign Tim Frazier as a backup PG and chemistry guy and offer the mid level to Terrance Jones... IDK
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

I'm ok on Howard and parsons, but parsons alone kinda sucks because youre only going to get 3/4 of him a season. I guess the same might be true for Dwight too. UGH. Why toy with us Whiteside????

Yeah, if Portland needs to clear cap space, they can do it. With so many teams desperate for cheap talent, teams would die to get Davis for nothing.

Free agent pool just got shallower. Mayo just got kicked out of the league for drugs.

Multiple sources can confirm that both Chandler Parsons and Dwight Howard like money.

Yeah 4 years is more manageable but I'm still not nearly as excited as most here. I do like the balls Olshey and pa are showing here but it is certainly a calculated risk. And I question that team's ability to contend against sa, gs, and Cleveland. Yes on paper it's intriguing to add 2 big names but we essentially lost a better player in Lamarcus a season ago only to go after Howard (who at this stage is less talented and whose style fits even less than la) and parsons who is relatively equal to Nic batum. No doubt cj and dame have improved massively so there's that but I'm still not 100 percent excited about this

Just saw this too. Must have been a pretty hard drug for him to get kicked out. What a fall for that kid.

Righto bed time. When I wake up, I wanna see some GOOD news. Don't give me BS about Chandler picking Memphis and Dwight choosing Boston.

Pls. ONE TIME!

I also think that the personality of the Blazer's team is a far better fit for Dwight. Lillard is an assassin but no where near the ego that has overshadowed Dwight like Kobe or Harden. Lillard being involved in recruitment of Dwight and what he says and how he says it could be the clincher...

If Portland could get that done, it would be a very interesting team.

I really doubt they can get it done. Howard is seeking somewhere around $24M per, and that's going to be tough to fit alongside a near-max for Parsons.

Could be a good team and would make us deeper as well. But ya not sure we have quite enough cap space.

I'm also not huge on Parsons but I guess he is a decent shooter...

41% from 3 last season on 4 attempts a game is decent? What qualifies as good, Steph Curry?
