I figure Harkless is gone hell make 10-14 and Turner is just better. Especially in the starting 5 improves our passing.

We will be bringing Meyers for his shooting looks like.

Just wonder what center we will go for, Hibbert/ Ian Manhimi? I said Turner and Roy would be a nice low risk option with our RFAs returning.

Pau Gasol would be interesting too, could have one of the better passing teams.

I'm not huge on the idea that POR needs a center. Plumlee was good against LAC. And a lot of times small ball is more necessary these days. Which means a lot of long guys who can switch everything on defense.

Forgive me but, LOL to those who didn't want us to go after Tobias Harris because of his contract.

I'm completely over cap space for Portland. Done with it. Far as I care, Blazers should spend the rest of the life of the franchise capped out. Cap space is about as useful as Monopoly money at a Ferrari dealership.

So the Blazers are making an "aggressive" offer to Gasol, that would have been great news in 2006 but I honestly do not see what Gasol offers this team as it is currently assembled. I really hope I get proven wrong.
I never thought I’d lead the NBA in rebounding, but I got a lot of help from my team-mates – they did a lot of missing.

Gasol would be great. The only thing against him is age. He is still balling out. Hell, he almost tied his career best for blocks per last season. He would be fine.

I've been saying Turner would be a good signing for quite a while. Without question I think they overpaid but I do like the fit. And I think he'll add more than Parsons would have at another $24mil plus over the 4 years. And he's what, almost $11mil a season cheaper than Batum?

I also read that Portland is meeting with Austin Rivers. Turner at starting small forward with Aminu at power forward. Now get a good defending center.

I suppose Crabbe is gone. Is there still a role for Harkless?

All that talk about getting someone of a similar age as our core and now pau gasol? Olshey only says what sounds good in his head and continues to change his tune on a dime

it's useful for unbalanced trades, which in Portland's case may be a better route then free agency. Blazers got Robin Lopez and Harkless that way. Of course, they also got TRob

the was to get top level talent if you're a small market team, and it fits for big market teams a lot of the time too, is thru the draft; either directly with the picks, or using the picks/players in trades

Free agency sucks.

the question is, does Turner "move the needle"?

sure seems like paying somebody 17.5 million a year should rocket that needle into hyperdrive

Turner absolutely moves the needle. I don't like the 17.5 number, but it does seem to be the going rate based off the rest of the deals doing down. Take the sticker shock out of the equation, and Turner is an excellent acquisition that makes our team more dynamic, better balanced, and more talented. I'd say needle moved, and the offseason is not over yet.

If Crabbe was hoping for an expanded role with PDX that would seem unlikely now that Turner has signed. Gasol and Plumlee have similar game with Pau being the better scorer but I don't see why they would not prefer a younger more athletic defensive minded center who could grow with this team.

I believe, on an escalating salary, we have not renounced any of our own free agents yet. That's a positive.

what position will Turner be starting in? Will he replace CJ or Aminu? 17.5 million/year is almost 20% of the cap and that's too much to pay for a bench player

SG: CJ
SF: Turner
PF: Aminu

I updated the main page with Turner's reported agreement to 70/4 assuming it starts low and has 4.5% raises per year.

Currently that leaves us at about 8.4 mil in space with our restricted free agents, 26 million without any of them.

Many of us had been talking about adding turner for months as the best alternative outside of Parsons. Its not a shock we landed here. Whats a shock is the price. Back then I assumed Turner would end up with something closer to 48/4 not 70/4...

I have been OK for a while with the idea of adding Turner; personally, I preferred Lance Stevenson over Turner as I think he's probably a better player

anyway, I just don't see how you can take contract out of the equation. Turner's contract is nearly 19% of the cap. That's a lot. And as I pointed out above (or maybe in another thread), Turner is well below average in career PER, TS%, and Winshares/48. He's going to have to play well above his norms to shift the needle for Portland in any significant fashion.

Ok, time to add Austin Rivers to a bargin 8 million a year, and call it a wrap! Good job Olshey! Don't forget to match on Meyers' 15 million a year either!
