I wouldn't label him an elite 3 point shooter. Last season, his .377 mark was 71st among the 149 'qualified' NBA 3 point shooters...so about average or median. That's not close to elite. His career mark is a little better at .387, but that's also a long ways from elite

but if you're talking about him being a limited minute 6th man, look at these numbers:

2020-21 - games started 0%....avg minutes 17.3....3ptFG% .426
2021-22 - games started 53%....avg minutes 29.5....3ptFG% .405
2022-23 - games started 100%....avg minutes 35.0....3ptFG% .377

of course, the problem is that with the new CBA no team will be willing to pay a bench player 26M/year

Yeah, but 38% on extremely high volume, and creating the attempts for himself at a high clip. That has value.
Especially if you’re comparing him as a shooter to a static corner camping 3pt shooter.

yeah, he shot a lot but not that much more than a lot of players

player/attempts/%

Tyrese Maxey 369 .434
Stephen Curry 639 .427
Buddy Hield 677 .425
Corey Kispert 384 .424
Michael Porter Jr. 454 .414
Keegan Murray 501 .411
Darius Garland 412 .410
Isaiah Joe 394
Desmond Bane 407
Trey Murphy III 497 .406
Kevin Huerter 510 .402
Georges Niang 384 .401
Tyrese Haliburton 402 .400
Jamal Murray 432 .398
D'Angelo Russell 490 .396
Lauri Markkanen 511 .391
De'Anthony Melton 403 .390
CJ McCollum 543 .389
Royce O'Neale 419 .389
Quentin Grimes 407 .386
Donovan Mitchell 635 .386
Tim Hardaway Jr. 550 .385
James Harden 418 .385
Jrue Holiday 411 .384
Mikal Bridges 442 .382
Derrick White 391 .381
Kyrie Irving 496 .379
Tyler Herro 537 .378
Anfernee Simons 562 .377

I saw it for 7 long years....people working OT to try and conince others that their evaluations of CJ were underrating him. Now, that dynamic has replaced CJ with Simons

remember now....CJ was going to be an all-star once he escaped Dame's shadow...not so fast apparently

I'm not saying Simons isn't a decent or even good three point shooter. He's just a long ways from being elite and he's standing in the way of Sharpe

5th most attempts per game in the league. That’s extremely high volume, at very good efficiency, even on a down year in terms of percentage compared to the last 2. There is of course always going to be some year to year variance in 3pt%.

I’m not even a huge Ant guy, and I would prefer he come off the bench.
But he is a very very good, (yes, bordering on elite) 3pt shooter.

Okay, so I'm genuinely curious about your opinions in this hypothetical...

Say Lillard gets traded to Miami, and next year the chemistry is way off and Miami sucks...or Butler has a career ending injury (sure hope not)...and Miami misses the playoffs (sure hope so)...

What does "mr. loyalty" do then? Does he ask for another trade? He is obviously one of those "I can only control me" guys, so what's the move? Does he ring-chase every year the rest of his playing days?

Don’t care.

Not on my team.

This has to be one of the most annoying trade requests of all time. "Player X only want to go to Team Y. Team Y not desperate to trade for Player X. Team Z doesn't want to trade with Team Y."

Cool.

I don't understand how you get a top ten guy coming off his best season publicly asking for a trade directly to your team, who your other star players want, who is the offensive cure you need in the playoffs, and your response is a lack of enthusiasm or willingness to throw in all your middling trade assets.

Just bizarre. Feels a bit insulting to Dame too honestly.

Right or wrong, the Heat want the trade to be on their terms. They are a destination city and can wait until next summer for the next superstar to want to be in Miami

I think it's GREAT, Dame went out on a limb and said I WANNA GO HERE, nowhere else and now HERE does not want to pay for him (assets) and HERE never had the assets to get the trade done, now Dame looks like a dope and a chump for believing the Heat nonsense, he has burned his bridges to the ground in Portland and now the rest of the league has cooled on him because of his and (agents) big mouth and cocky attitude.

Many (me, hahaha) of us don't even want you back at this point, you are screwing up OUR plan by your plan blowing up in YOUR face, F OFF sell popcorn but I hope to God he never plays another game for this team...suck it up invent a thumb injury and sit until somebody decides they want you, (only speaking for myself) I don't wanna ever see you in a blazer uniform or get invited back for some stupid ring of honor or anything else. You made this bed, now sleep in it. If we don't get a legit deal just park your behind in street clothes and watch the show, which will probably be bad, but for once in the last 10 years I am OK WITH IT.

It would be really funny if Dame got upset at his treatment by Miami and turned over evidence of the Heat tampering with him.

Most teams would opt to surround prime rookie Scoot with some experienced players, until SS is fully ready to play 35 mpg, next to Scoot.

I get you, but in the long run, this is better IMO. SS gets used to his future position. We are terrible and get another top draft pick. Often times organizations want to get back to winning ASAP, but a slow methodical, strategic rebuild is better for long term real success.

Honestly, I'm wondering if the Heat are possibly saving those assets for a potential future trade for Giannis. Assets they aren't willing to part for Dame, but definitely for Giannis.

I mean those assets don't come close to getting Giannis. Milwaukee would hang up the phone unless they included Bam. And even then I'm not sure they do it, they just go right to OKC and ask for some combination of two of Chet, Giddey or Williams and then many, many, many picks.

Love it.

Miami is trying to get Dame + keep their powder dry for Giannis / Joel / Luka next summer. 100% this is the logic behind the lowball.

I wouldnt be surprised if Lowry, Robinson and 1 of Jovic / JJJ + a swap or two was their offer.

To me, Dame is just such a perfect fit for Miami. They compete for a championship for probably 3 years and probably win one...maybe 2.

Even IF they had the best offer for Giannis-doubtful, that is not an ideal fit. Giannis, Butler, and Bam is just terrible spacing. I honestly think Dame would increase their chances better than Giannis with bringing home a championship.

Even if they had the assets for Embiid, what happens with Bam? Do they trade Bam for Embiid straight up? Jimmy and Embiid did not do much before.

Now Luka is a different story. Great fit and he is younger. But Luka's laid back attitude and Miami? That and Dallas is a proactive team. I think Luka is staying in the big D for a long time.

We might be seeing a bit of spite from the Blazers here with how insane the lowball offers were early on. I don't think they are trying to piss Dame off by sending him elsewhere I think they were upset with Miami trying to take advantage early on.

Keep in mind they seem hellbent on sending Dame anywhere else unless Miami starts really putting their best offer forward.
