Re: Trade Deadline Approaches
I just have a feeling that the chance of a KD trade before the Kyrie trade happened was probably like 5% at best, that likelihood has probably gone up to 20-25% still not super high but better.

Maybe even Melo as well for shooting. I don't care how old they are, they're cheap and talented. Obviously you're not signing them for defense but savvy experience. Totally open to other options but I can't think of any off the top of my head. As far as talent goes, they're the best options out there to fill out the roster cheap for a serious run this year.
Dame/Payton
Dinwiddie/Curry
Grant/Warren
KD/Winslow/Melo
Eubanks/Howard/Cousins
That leaves us with only Dame, KD, Dinwiddie, and Payton signed next year so we can start from scratch to build around our 2 stars for the last few years of their primes.
That trade doesnt even come close to working.

I didn't put it through the checker obviously, I just did some guessing. I just figured we might as well send all of our youth for their veterans since they won't have any use for them.

Re: Trade Deadline Approaches
if we can do it , i would try almost any combo to do it and i would want claxton to come here also.
i dont know about trade checker but a line up like
dame
anybody
grant
KD
claxton
is going to win some playoff games... add a bench of gp,keon, winslow, walker, eubanks.
im in on that. i'de put them up against any WCF team in the playoffs.

Re: Trade Deadline Approaches
If you read the discussion on the Nets board, they've built a team of 6-7 guys that is short of shooting
without Kyrie and size. They should be solid defensively.
I'm skeptical Portland has anything they'd want unless Portland offered up Dame/Ant but they now
have 3 FRP to offer up in a future trade. Likely they will see how these new pieces fit and if they
need to make moves, will do so prior to the 23 draft.

There is no way that the Blazers offer Dame for KD this is a move that makes neither team better. If a trade happens no way is Portland interested if they demand Dame, I could see them offering almost any other player on the roster not named Damian though.
I could see them seeing Sharpe as having a high ceiling though he can't even walk into a bar and order a beer, he already has shown great potential in his game and he is so damn young he could get way better. Just because Sharpe is not putting up huge stat lines is more due to the fact that he didn't get thrown onto some team that is not trying to win games and could give him 35+ MPG.

I tried it in the trade checker and it works without Nas and Curry. I forgot we're hard capped...

Nassir has a Poison Pill contract it is very difficult to trade him until that goes away.

Re: Trade Deadline Approaches
Meh. Buying high on a beat up and frustrated KD at this point who doesn’t really even want to be here seems bad from the start.

Am I the only person who would prefer keeping Hart over Grant? Josh is such a perfect role player on the wing I just adore his ability to stay effective on the nights when he's not taking even 10 shots.

In order by default he needs to be more aggressive about getting his shots. I understand there’s only one ball etc but he still should be getting 15+ reliably based on his ability to do it, and our teams need for him to be consistent. Give him half of Jeramis contested perimeter shots and we’re good.

Nas does have a PP contract, but it's not that big of a deal.
Nas' outgoing salary for trade matching purposes is $4.2M. If Portland was further away from the tax line, they could get back salary up to ~$7.4M.
For other teams, his incoming salary for trade matching purposes is $6.4M (average of all 5 years). The numbers are close enough that it'd be easy to make a deal happen.
The bigger issue is how close Portland is to the Tax Line.... That will limit a lot more deals than Nas' PP contract.

I'm right there with you. Grant is a good shooter/scorer. His defense is average, and his rebounding is anemic.
Hart has his warts too, but it is easier to overlook those when he's busting his ass every play.

I don't know what is happening with Hart's head on the offensive side of the ball. He doesn't even look at the rim right now. He has WIDE open shots & he rotates the ball without even considering taking a shot.
You can't "Give" him shots, when he is refusing to take them.... I would really like to know what his thought process is. He has the ability to be a competent scorer. There just seems to be a mental block there.

Re: Trade Deadline Approaches
All signs seem to point to the Nets playing out the season with KD and not moving him before the deadline, then deciding what to do with him this summer. Some reports suggest they think they'll get better return for him then.
Something to think about with getting KD right now (and this goes for any team), KD doesn't have a ton of time left in his prime and injuries are starting to become a more regular thing for him... on top of that, after the 23/24 season, the NBA could potentially face a lockout if the new CBA isnt agreed to in time. If that lockout does happen and is prolonged, it could significantly cut into whatever prime KD has left (same for Dame and any other star of their age).

Re: Trade Deadline Approaches
I think Boston has the best package available for KD with Brown and however many picks they have. I don’t get why they would trade Brown for KD at his age though, Brown has probably 6-7 years left of his prime, maybe longer.

I believe New Orleans has a pick swap with the Lakers this year. And then they're also in the lottery themselves right now. Brooklyn might wait to see if Toronto, New Orleans, even us land in the lottery and would include those picks too. I think they might be hopeful any pick 2 and up is available (since I doubt anyone would trade the first).

I've never understood the Boston angle either. Don't really think Tatum and KD are a good match from an age or complementary talent standpoint, but KD is KD I guess.

Yeah, New Orleans could be an interesting landing spot if the Nets want to do the pick-haul route. Not confident that's what they want though, I think they want picks AND building block players back. NO could give back Ingram, but I think BI has kinda solidified himself as a solid #2 or #3 guy, but will never be a consistent All-Star level core player for a team.

This Cavs blog has Josh Hart as the most likely player to be a Cav by the end of the week.
Not really sure what Portland would be interested in getting back though unless the Cavs are willing to trade a FRP.
I would do Hart and Nurkic for Love's expiring contract I think.

I would want something as incentive, and I also think CLE would balk at Nurkic as a 18M AV backup. Think he would be peak pouty Nurkic too if put in that position.
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
