GSW would be beyond stupid for matching Barnes.
It's the hottest place to be. Even if KD doesn't sign, next year another star FA will be a good candidate to slip in. If you max Barnes..... that's not happening.
Even by maxing Barnes now, good luck having anything resembling a respectful bench next season when Curry gets his max.

Yeah, he's a clearcut headcase. Don't waste any money on him, he will just quit again when things get tough for him. Talented as heck but not worth the trouble.

Please... Let's not entertain anymore free agent signings. Let's focus on a trade instead. It's depressing.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
So Dame thought this FA was going to be exciting for the Blazers...Admittedly, Olshey telling Dame they were going after Parsons and Dwight did seem pretty exciting at the time. But of course no big FA ever signs in FA so should've expected that to fail. Instead, Blazers got Evan Turner! They probably gonna bring back all their RFAs too! Super exicting tbh lads...

how about a comparison of Barnes, Turner, & Harkless:
http://bkref.com/tiny/08b03
first, look at some of those per36 numbers. I find the Points/FGA's kind of interesting:
Harkless 1.21
Barnes 1.17
Turner 1.13
obviously, Barnes is the better perimeter shooter and that counts for a lot in today's NBA. But that's about the only advantage he has. Turner is by far the best playmaker, Harkless the best rebounder (Barnes finished 3rd) and the best at steals + blocks
then look at the advances numbers like PER, TS%, FT Rate, reb rate, winshares/48, value over replacement. There's not a lot that separates the three players. They are all strong in some areas and weak in others
if you drop down to the advanced numbers in the playoffs, Harkless had a clear edge, and playoff performance counts for something. Barnes is a year older then Harkless too and has played 43% more minutes
personally, I like the potential of Harkless more then any other Blazer role player. I think Portland would be making a mistake they'd regret a long time letting Harkless go or choosing Crabbe over Harkless. Unless Harkless gets some insane offer sheet Portland should match

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
Yeah Harkless was quite impressive in the playoffs. Especially considering he had some sort of injury for a few games at least. Crabbe was pretty clutch with his shot making as well. Both are pretty good investments. I like Harkless more considering his height and hustle. Crabbe seems somewhat bored out there sometimes.
Turner is a decent idea considering shooting tends to be easier to learn than playmaking and ball handling.

not speaking on how decent an idea he is, but...
Turner will be 28 when next season starts. He'll be in his 7th seasonin the NBA after playing 3 years in the NCAA. He's probably been playing basketball since junior high. If he hasn't leaned to shoot by now it's probably unrealistic to expect him to get significantly better. Yeah, it's possible, but pretty unlikely

Yeah, a big part of Aminu making a jump was that he was still relatively young. Turner is basically what he is, which I think fits our team needs, but I am not expecting any significant improvement with his shooting.
Also, 100% agree on keeping Harkless. He has one of the best potential ceilings on our roster. I've long said he would be a better long-term bet than Crabbe, even at similar money.

I feel exactly the same way. We better prioritize Harkless. He isn't perfect but he impacts games and still has some upside.

Yeah it's not common. I suppose the only player I know of right now who's improved is Trevor Ariza. Who got significantly better at 3 point shooting over time. But on a team like POR where Turner will have a lot of incentive to learn how to shoot, it is possible he will get better.

why is gasol waiting for durants decision? both have offers from the spurs. is he going to follow kd if he chooses the spurs and if not then he takes the more lucrative offer from the blazers? are toronto and minny a threat by offering as much as we can?

It's clear why he's waiting for Durant's decision. Let's look at it:
There's 4 teams interested in him.
One of those four has eye on Durant (Spurs).
One of those 4 teams won't have enough money to sign him if they get Durant (Spurs).
Where is he going if the Spurs don't get Durant?
Do the math......

I totally disagree that age has anythingto do with it. Everything in the NBA has to do with a players situation, not age. Players at any age can see drastic changes in percentages or overall stats based on situation.
Look no further than Gerald Henderson. He had his best 3pt shooter percentage season last year in Portland. Last time he came close to .35 was two years ago and he shot roughly 30 more 3pt attempts his year with Portland..... oh, and he also played 1000 less minutes comparing the two seasons. So he shot way more threes in far far FAR less time on the court and hit his best percentage ever in the pros... at age 28.
Freaking Jason Kidd became a respectable 3pt shooter in his late 30's when he was a terrible 3pt shooter his whole career.
I don't know what Turner will do with his shooting percentages, but saying he CAN'T improve because of age is silly and just factually incorrect based on past history of other players.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
if we do miss out on gasol & we are still in the market for a veteran PF or C, then i would do these trades
portland gets gortat
sacramento gets aminu & morris
washington gets plumle, vonleh, & gay[plus some $ or picks]
S&T harkless & a pick to chicago for gibson & mcdermott
then either resign crabbe or 1 of these guys to replace him. l.stephenson, m.thornton, or g.henderson
then sign 1 of these PG'S for the vets min. felton, vasquez, roberts or a.brooks
then resign leonard once he realizes how small the market is for him.
so if it were me our roster would be
PG - dame/felton/frazier
SG - cj/crabbe/connaughton
SF - turner/mcdermott
PF - gibson/leonard/leymen
C - gortat/davis
portland gets gortat
sacramento gets aminu & morris
washington gets plumle, vonleh, & gay[plus some $ or picks]
S&T harkless & a pick to chicago for gibson & mcdermott
then either resign crabbe or 1 of these guys to replace him. l.stephenson, m.thornton, or g.henderson
then sign 1 of these PG'S for the vets min. felton, vasquez, roberts or a.brooks
then resign leonard once he realizes how small the market is for him.
so if it were me our roster would be
PG - dame/felton/frazier
SG - cj/crabbe/connaughton
SF - turner/mcdermott
PF - gibson/leonard/leymen
C - gortat/davis
Defense and rebounding wins games

Felton?! I'll become a Laker fan if he comes back.
To Duster's point. Deng has been a late bloomer with shooting. And Marvin Williams, in his first 8 seasons he hit a total of 269 threes. In the past 3 seasons he has hit 331 threes.
