DusterBuster wrote:Interesting read over on the Hawks board about the trade, they aren't at all happy about it. They talk about him a lot like Portland used to talk about Wes Matthews, real strong lockerroom guy and they're shocked the Hawks did this as a straight up move without asking for more.

This could be one of those low-key unsexy trades that ends up being a lot more impactful than we may think. He should be a good replacement for Hood and ET's role had been reduced so drastically that he can absorb those minutes as well.

So he's a good guy just like ET.

it is a little ironic that we've been talking about an ET for Bazemore trade for a couple of years now. Not because Bazemore is a significantly better player, he really isn't, but because he's a little better fit and of course, he's not ET

I know Evan is really loved in the locker room and is seen as a great teammate, so I think it's good to replace him with someone who also has that aura, personality about them but shoots a bit better.

Bye, ET. Thank you for helping us win that game seven. I'll miss your personality, clothes and your voice.

Oh man, I've been asking for this trade ever since the Hawks decided to blow their team up. I'm excited, even if this move does suggest that the Blazers are likely moving on from Hood and Curry...

Better fit in the Stotts system. Insurance for Hood/Curry and has no downside for it clears some
rotation minutes for Simons who is going to be an important player next season.

If this improves our chances of using the MLE to keep Kanter, this is a great move!

If he can bounce back from that ghastly 32% 3pt , back to around 37%, and not slip on the defensive end, he'll be a useful player for us. Not $19 million dollar useful, but that was sunk cost anyway.
That summer of '16 sure produced some awful contracts.

it 'hurts' the chances of using the full-MLE (1M closer to the apron now), but that was never on the table unless Portland can trade Mo/Meyers for no salary coming back

the C market is saturated this summer. It will very likely be easier to keep Kanter for the 5.7M tax-MLE than it would have been to keep Hood. And even if Portland can't keep Kanter, there will be cheap options available

I'm higher on ET than most, and he was the nicest of the Blazers whom I talked to in person. And I think he found a really nice niche with the team, although more expensive than the value in most people's views. If Bazemore can cost about the same, but can have a more expanded role, then this is all goodness. I'll miss ET, but this is the kind of tweak like the Bowie for Buck Williams that can open up a lot of opportunities on the court.

Will still be WAY better than Turner's absolutely woeful 21.2% from 3 pt range this last season.

Not really, because the only way we would use the full MLE is if we cut salary by trading Turner and another expensive player (Leonard or Harkless) without taking back salary. We can still do that. It never was highly likely that Olshey would do this. It's more likely (and always was) that we use the taxpayer MLE.

There is indeed a fairly long list of free agent bigs on the market which include old friends Ed Davis and
Robin Lopez. The Bazemore trade offers up insurance policy for Hood and the team has Simons to
replace Curry. Portland's bench could be Simons, Bazemore, Little and whoever is signed for the
taxpayers MLE to backup Portland's starters from last season.

Blazers are going miss ET. Bazemore if very good but ET did some things Bazemore can't do. Turner is bigger, stronger, and a better passer in some ways. ET is a very good interior passer.

This is like 6 years too late for me. I wanted Bazemore when he was with the Warriors. I get that Bazemore may be a better fit for the Blazers, but this is a MEH trade for me. If he can get his shooting percentage up, maybe he becomes a trade asset at the deadline for his play and not just his expiring contract.

Blazers aren't going to sign Ed Davis. We let him go because his lack of shooting allowed easy help against Lillard. Lillard is still our PG.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought we have a single cap MLE available to us, that we can use part or all on Kanter, Hood, or some other free agent. I've always thought Hood is gone because the market is going to pay him more than our cap MLE. It looks like it's 50/50 on Kanter, but as you stated the C market is more plentiful this year so I'm hopeful..... Kanter by far is my first choice for our backup center.

So I like the Bazemore trade because it takes some of the sting out of losing Hood, and while I'll miss Turner's passing and post up play, I think Bazemore fits better with this team because his 3 pt shooting is so much better than Turner.

For Evan Turner, no sweetener. Olshey killing it this last year by taking opportunities when they present themselves and not overthinking or over-playing things. Here's hoping he's got some magic left come free agency.

The market didn't pay Hood last year. Hood's best offer was to accept his minimum QO, which was less than the non-bird exception Blazers can use to sign him this summer.

To what degree did Turner play PG last season for you guys? Reports I'm reading say he was the PG for the second unit for the second half of the season... is that true? If not, what's your more realistic estimate. Just looking for some education.
