He did say we would be surprised by the value, but I think he mentioned a WC team.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

I'm fine with acquiring Jrue, but why on earth are we not getting draft compensation back in this deal?
That is absolutely baffling. Can we please sell this team and replace our entire front office??

I would actually love this trade if Holiday made closer to 25M. True winner unlike Ayton and Jerami. Elite locker room guy. Can play with both the young guards. Down year shooting but coin flip that he bounces back IMO.
Despite the talks of slowing down last year he was still a 0.133 WS48, —0.3 OBPM (drop likely due to down year shooting) and posted the 2nd best DBPM of his career. He only had 15-16% usage so he knows his role.
Great guy, should be a classy mentor. Would be shocked if he fusses over being a 6th man.
Overpaid by about 7M right now for what he brings IMO but I don’t see his deal as close to as bad as Grant.

My point being that we should have gotten a late 1st back for this.DusterBuster wrote:Dame Lizard wrote:Cronin is an absolute idiot.

Not give up 2 seconds.....
Also, as I said above, I like Jrue. But his contract isn't good. I know Portland doesn't have great uses for cap space anyway, but I'm seriously concerned if we're trying to compete. If Portland trades #11 for a mediocre win-now player (think Larry Nance), this would be a horrid outcome.

Even with the age consideration taken into account, Holiday is better than Simons.
The Blazers improved and I don’t care about second round picks, and since they’re not a FA destination, I don’t care about their salary particularly strongly either… but still just genuinely confused all around by the trade in terms of what exactly is the plan here.

This is nuts. I feel like this trade pushes us up from battling for the 10-12 seed to battling for the 8-10 seed. And adds a ton of salary for years in the future. Our team has a massive amount of salary and not a single player who has even half a chance of being an all star. This trade makes it almost impossible for us to become an elite team anytime in the next 5 years. Absolutely locked into the treadmill. Totally bizarre.

This deal feels like it has Billups’ input all over it.

Ant's trade value was less than we hoped for. His low interest in playing defense decreases his value. Plus Jrue is a two way player, that increases his value.
The first clue Ant's trade value was low. The Magic dragged their feet trading for him, for two years. Then overpayed for a two way player rather than the cheaper Ant.

I’ll say this too, I suspect Holiday will have more value in another trade in a year or two. Moreso than Simons on a 35mil extension would. Holiday has championship pedigree, Simons can score good… sometimes.

There are about 8 players in the league who make 30 mil + and have no chance of being an all star. Blazers have 3 of the 8.

I’m not sure people are respecting the value Jrue has…

About where I’m at right now, but maybe other deals in the works. Makes extra less sense if they are picking a guard in the draft at 11 - which most suspect will be the case.

We for sure should have made them take on Kris in this deal.

The Celtics motivation to make this trade was to reduce salaries. Adding Kris's salary did not fit their needs.

Im not going to complain about the value here for Boston at all, but given this outcome I suspect Brad was never going to pay out a 1st to move Jrue's salary. I am surprised the Blazers paid the 2 2nds though

This will make more sense if we pull off another roster upgrade. Like with a Scoot/11/Ayton package for example. Then you can see Joe building a "win now" team.
Jrue for Simons is nice straight up as well...but yeah, 3 years 100+ million at his age is steep. Especially if we can't unload Grant.

I hate that I hate a trade where we acquire a player I respect greatly for a player I don't, but that's the magic of Joe Cronin.

At least this prevents Portland from extending Simons for the next 4 years
One can say if this helps Scoot become the player management hopes he can be, this trade will
be okay. I don't hate these types of trades for Portland if they sat still would be picking in the
late lottery again and now if that pick conveys, it unlocks Milwaukee's pick swap in 2028.
I'm still doubtful Portland makes the playoffs however.
