Yang is going to get killed on the defensive end. He gets pushed around too easily by the little guys. The big guys will manhandle him. He also needs to learn to rebound. I like the box out, but that doesn't mean he can't try for the rebound. I'm guessing he will get 10-15 minutes. Clingan will get 25-minutes. That still leaves 8-13 minutes for RW3, Reath, or some small ball lineup. I still wish they had a true PF.

Yeah, having another big that can play with our Cs would be awesome. If you have Deni on the floor at the same time, that will mitigate the problem (he rebounds like a small ball C).

And yes, for this year it is going to be tough on him both inside and outside on D. In time, I think he will get strong enough to handle the inside physicality and hold his own.

I think one point you are making is quite understated and a really solid point. Clingan is probably only going to ever be a 28 minute a game guy with how hard he plays (and foul issues from game to game). Having Yang (not this year) play all 20 other minutes is pretty exciting. And they really are two completely different beasts.

I know you're aware but it bears repeating that the NBA game has evolved to the point that every team needs small-ball lineups. You need to allocate 8-10 C minutes a game for a small-ball C. Neither Clingan or Yang are small ball C's.

and while they might be a little different type of beasts on offense, they are the same beast on defense: drop-coverage C's. They are redundant defensively. Sometimes redundancy works. In this case I'm skeptical it will work. I think eventually (end of rookie scale deals?) Portland will have to choose between the two

Yep, there are many teams that run small ball. Denver is trying to get away from that - it will be interesting to see both the trends and watch the teams that go both big and small. I don't think this is set in stone.

Nor do I believe that in this day and age they will need to choose between the two. They may if there is a really good offer out there. Either way, a terrific problem to have.

You could play both in a 3- 2 zone as well.

Regarding Clingan, it wouldn't surprise me if he, Scoot and Deni were the core of a package for Giannis, along with their picks and others

I hope that doesn’t happen.

POR is nowhere near contention with or without GA.

Ha 2.0.
I loved Ha.
But the summer league fan hype is just that. Remember how great Scoot looked against G-League players?
This was just a move to boost Chinese interest in the franchise prior to a sale.

Didn’t scoot only play like the first half of one game? And I don’t remember Ha being good in summer league

Bro... as someone who went into Photoshop 2006 and made 70% of the Ha memes... Yang isn't Ha.

And I say this as someone who would be STOKED if Yang was Ha 2.0 for the meme potential...

Yang has skills. If they relate to regular NBA minute skills... we'll see... but Ha was a **** statute. He was big and slow without even 30% of Yang's clear feel for the game.

If you think he's Ha 2.0, I wonder about your eyes for the game.

His ceiling may just be Zac Edey with slightly better passing,,, and that means a decent backup.

Ha isn't even a decent G-League backup in todays game!...

No shade Ha, you're my bro!!

Yang hype has reached the stupidity level

Slow as heck, poor stamina, sub rudimentary post moves, poor rebounding, foul prone, has one “go to” slow roll spin move that has already been scouted in SL

Yeah he has good vision\passing, pretty sure that is the not the #1 quality you want in an NBA caliber CENTER.

I can only chuckle at the revisionist history, trying to justify POR picking him at #16

Come on man, there isnt a chance in hell you expected Yang to look this good in SL. This being your only take away reeks bro.

24.5mpg / 10.8ppg / 5rpg / 3.8agp / 2.2bpg / 45% FG / 33% 3PT / 87% FT

He for sure exceeded basically anyones expectations. Ya, he has alot to work on. Ya, his conditioning sucks and he leans too heavily into boxing out for others. Ya, he wont ever be switchy on the perimeter.

But he flashed some real ****.

I think that Yang displayed a few things that are really good.

- Dude can pass for sure. When he is in the high post it opens up the entire court - he is that good.
- Dude can shoot the 3. He has a really nice stroke.
- Dude can set a screen (Clingan, take notes please). He sets screens like a vet.
- Dude has spin moves (his handle will need to catch his up with the speed at which he processes the game).
- Dude is long and will be able to block shots.

He has some things that could keep him from reaching his potential.

- Dude needs conditioning and speed work.
- Dude needs to grab rebounds (interesting in the last SL game, he seemed to be working on that).
- Dude is going to need to work on P&R defense. He is strictly a drop defender (and probably all he will be).

My take: If the Blazers put a physical development coach on him, I think he can overcome the shortcomings where the strengths outweigh the negatives. I will say it again, he looked like the best C at SL.

I think at worst he is going to be a good rotational C. My expectation going into SL was that he was going to be a bust.

New Blazers coach Tiago Splitter, hopefully will be a really good big man coach
