Honestly, as an outside fan, I don't see that much in Alridge. He looks like Pau Gasol without the post game and the passing. I don't think that he'll ever be an All-Star player.
Dirk would fit so well with Oden, it wouldn't be funny.
It'd take more than LMA to get Dirk though. It'd probably take LMA+Rudy or LMA+Bayless+2 first round picks.
I doubt Dallas would do it without LMA+Rudy though. LMA is NOT a franchise player, not close to it.
Trade for Dirk?

Re: Trade for Dirk?
The only reason I would even hesitate to trade for Dirk is because hes 30. Dirk is an amazing player and can give you guaranteed what I would like to see out of LMA, consistent scoring. Dirk is just slightly older then I would like, but I would at least really consider this deal because Dirk is such a good player. I honestly don't think LMA will ever be as good as Dirk is, but I also am not quite prepared to give up on him just yet though. Still this is very tempting though..

Re: Trade for Dirk?
This is a VERY intriguing trade idea. I think he could be the extra veteran glue we're needing. I agree it would be lovely to have Brandon, LMA and Oden grow up together but sometimes you have to kick start it.
I think the Lakers are our biggest enemy and Pau seems to be entering his prime right now. if Bynum is above solid in each game the next three years the Lakers will be very difficult to beat in the playoffs.
Nowitzki would negate tha Pau advantage and then Oden and Batum giving away 5 fouls would hopefully do the rest.
I propose in January when Dallas are out of the playoffs conention:
Dirk
for
Raef, LMA, Travis plus cash plus 1 first round pick and one second round pick this year and next.
That's two starters and decent salaries for the future plus an extra draft pick. I am 99% sure Martell is going to come back better than ever and we have Batum as the future already. Rudy can take mibnutes at SF if necessary against certain teams.
We get veteran leadership but also somebody who's on the clock. He knows he has a small window to get a championship. I think this will rub off on the other players and take some weight form Roy's shoulders.
We then bring over Freeland and he'll offer the banger we need to sub for Dirk and Channing will probably take a paycut to stay.

Once again, I don't think Cuban would trade away his franchise player for LMA. It'd have to be LMA+Rudy.

If Cuban decided to rebuild I would give up a trio of young guys to go along with Reafs expiring.
Something like Frye, Bayless, Batum, and 2 first rounders + Reaf but not LMA.
Dirk makes us contenders right now but cuts the window in half.

Cuban must have some crazy man crush on Dirk or something, because I just don't get his undying passion for the guy at this point.

Re: Trade for Dirk?
I don't see how you could turn down Dirk for Aldridge. One is an all-star who fits this team perfectly. The other will most likely never be an all-star. It also allows Outlaw to start.
Its similar to the Celtics KG-Al trade. Granted Dirk isn't KG, but Aldridge isn't Al either.
Right now the Blazers have one AS and one future AS (Oden). (Note: since Roy, Kobe, Paul, Deron, and Parker have the 5 AS roster guard spots all but locked down for the next 5 years, I don't think you are going to see Rudy at that game in the near term).
If the Blazers can add a 3rd AS, one who will be an AS for at least the next 3 years, without giving up an AS, you do it.
