I tend to think Clyde handled his departure the best for he leveled with management and they took
care of him, without so much drama.

I look forward after this gets done, to reading what was going on behind the scenes. One cannot
blame Portland for protecting themselves for what if Portland had bent over backwards to please
Dame and the guy still asks out?

I mean in hindsight there was a lot of smoke, I know I personally tried to dismiss it but its hard to now. The whole IG post with "welcome to Miami" playing in the back-ground, do we still really think that was just a coincidence like his camp claimed?? Hard to believe, it seems likely this decision was made a while ago and I would be a bit curious who he had been talking to. Bam and Jimmy deep in his DMs no doubt, but heck Haslam and the special deal he has there seems like the perfect vehicle for the Miami's front-office to tamper with athletes.

Lillard was almost certainly convinced this was an once in a life-time opportunity to join a roster that just made the finals and that he could be the final piece to that championship, that he could have the glory and everything he had been chasing here in Portland. I totally get the allure and the draw of that, but I don't think its a coincidence that since Dame worked to get Grant here that he would ensure his guy gets paid before leaving and so I am pretty skeptical that he just came to a decision about this last night.

Once we deal Dame that'll be it. Seldom do you see stars return after they're dealt. I'm not surprised he's leaving but once he's gone I think the shock factor will hit

No disrespect to Dame but I’m ready to turn the chapter and get some new assets back to add to a very nice core in Scoot/Shae/Ant. Won’t lose sleep

Very material. We could have been the team under the cap taking other big contracts in exchange for assets. Instead we will probably have to find one of those teams to pay assets to in order to move him. Also if we had space we could sign players right ahead of having to give contracts to Scoot and Sharpe to add something to the team right when we are ready to start our run.

Which would mean that we might be able to use our cap space to take on a player like Jerami Grant or worse....

And get paid to do it rather than have to pay to be rid of it. A pretty huge difference tbh. And Grant has 5 years. You could do this five times and THEN take Grant and a pick.

When you sign a contract to play you give your word that you will play it out. The contract itself actually specifies you have to play too. Dame isn't offering to give the money back so he can be free; he's demanding all his money, but that his employers trade him to the team of his choice or else he'll fake an injury and refuse to play well. It's no different in principle to Harden or Kawhi or Simmons.

Teams can't dishonour contracts and refuse to pay you, so players shouldn't be able to either. Practically there may not be much the Blazers can do, but that doesn't make it any less wrong.

On a personal level I just don't think much of someone who reneges on their word in this way. Real men make good on their commitments.

This is the only way he gets his max dollars and plays on a team he wants. Quick had a great article out today about veiled threats of requesting a trade but never coming straight from his mouth. At the end of the day I’m glad our best player won’t be 6’2” anymore

He will be 6’3”?

Not really following your logic. The kinds of players that you get in a salary dump are over-paid themselves, or demanding to go to your team (which is something that will never happen to Portland.) In other words, if you think having cap space in order to hypothetically take on salary in a salary dump trade, you might end up with value like Grant (and when has that ever worked for us before)?

Knicks have a package that sends
Barrett+Robinson+Sims+Fourier +4 picks
4
Dame+Nurkic
I don't love the package, but we get a Center and SF.
Scoot/Ant
Shaedon/Ant/Fourier
Barrett/Murray/Rupert
Grant/Murray/Walker
Robinson/Sims

It's interesting because NY never gets mentioned but has an okay package. Don't believe it would happen but if you buy into Barrett>Wiggins it could be worse.

I like it better than the Miami package, as I see it. Any chance we can send RJ to his hometown Raptors for OG?

Send Simons to San Antonio for the Raptors picks and include that to them. Also get a Hawks pick and move that onto Atlanta with other assets for OO.

Sad by the situation. Time to look forward though. The Heat are the only team that really makes sense for Dame, but the Heat package is no where near the level of return I would want. So far I like a Spurs the best.

Blazers: Dame + Nurkic

Spurs: Sochan + Collins + Mcdermott + salary + 1sts

Sochan is the type of guy the Blazers should be going after, in addition to as many 1st round picks as possible.

I still don’t get the NY fit with Brunson.

I’m just saying it for myself. If the Knicks want to do that, I’m game, but yeah… weird fit.

That was my first thought as well, but Brunson played next to ball dominant Luka for years so it could work on offense.
Defensively, yea....this is where it breaks down. Luka is much taller than Dame.
Terrible size defensively in that backcourt.

I still just have a hard time seeing Crolshey pulling off a good deal for the Blazers. I have zero faith in him that he’ll make a great deal, it’ll likely just end up being Dame to Miami for whatever they’ll give up. Then he’ll sell the fanbase that “we’re not done” but they’ll be done and Herro will be on the roster creating a logjam opening day.

I think herro could be flipped but I do think miami as superstars generally get what they want in the end

Cronin isn't nearly the salesman olshey was. Olshey could probably sell well enough to get another executive job eventually. Once cronin moves on he will be gone like the dinosaurs with no one wanting to go near that
