Bol doesn’t process the game at a NBA level. Hoping it clicks is a fallacy.
I would rather Badji get those minutes. See what he’s got.

Apparently Thybulle is going to sign a RFA offer sheet with Dallas.
I would assume Portland matches but let's see how this all plays out.

I love Matisse but he's worth more in Dallas with Luka and Kyrie, than he would ne here without Dame.
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

True. The Mavs are still trying to compete, and a good defender is an absolute must for that team and a good fit.
I think the Blazers will let him walk if the price is too high and that is fine by me, rebuild means let's developing young talent.

I think MT is valuable to a rebuilding team - he wont take usage from the kids, he is a super high character guy and great locker room presence and his effort and hustle will help set the tone. I think he can be our Kenrich Williams - a guy around for the rebuild and with a spot in the future when we are back to playoff contention.

Why would it make sense to let him walk? We could well be looking at not even reaching our minimum team salary after this year.
Defenders like Thybulle will always have a market. Keep in as a trade piece if nothing else.

I would much prefer to keep Thybulle, I agree he would be a great piece of a rebuilding team.
That said, I can also see us being in a mindset that we are OK to let vets walk if they want and go chase better opportunities and the chance to play for something besides lottery picks. Hard to hold someone back too much with the situation we are in.
He would be great to keep if amenable though and would get plenty more opportunity to expand his game and show what he can do here than going back to a more limited defensive specialist role.

Re: Free Agency 2023 - Blazers and around the league.
I'd let thybulle walk personally given that he is more of a 2 on a team loaded with guards but I'm a lot more ok with that contract than grant's.
Realistically I think we match as he's probably movable. I just kinda things guards are common enough that we can find someone close enough for less money. I won't hate if we match this deal but i just think that money could be better used on a big especially with this team seemingly going nuclear

Re: Free Agency 2023 - Blazers and around the league.
Portland would be smart to match Thybulle. There's a possibility his camp is asking the Blazers to not match if he doesn't want to be on a rebuilding team, so I'm prepared for that potential scenario, but if his camp is OK with the Blazers matching, they would be wise to do so. It can't be that big of a contract since I don't believe the Mavs had any cap space to go above an MLE deal and Thybulle is still pretty young. He's a great lockerroom guy that the Blazers could use as a culture setter and pro for the young guys - but not so veteran that he's going to be needing to ring chase.
Thybulle also has a skillset that teams will always want as a defensive specialist, so it's a forever-movable contract (injuries not withstanding).
Long story short, don't lose the asset if at all possible.

Re: Free Agency 2023 - Blazers and around the league.
Several teams had reported interest in Thybulle.
Those teams were highly likely to offer only as high as the MLE, which is what Dallas reportedly did.
The Blazers said they would match offers for Thybulle. The market for him was set ... not by teams who could offer higher than Dallas. Could he have gotten more than the offer or was worth more? Maybe. See Dillon Brooks.
Matching Thybulle is an easy call. As soon as Thybulle signs the offer sheet (if he hasn't yet) and the Blazers are presented with it, simply get it done ... UNLESS there's someone who Dallas would view as next up and Portland wanted that guy for their MLE. Then, get both.
Thybulle is standing in no young player's way. Being young is. He's a plus-defender and only Grant guards as many positions. Teams need veterans who know how to play. Thybulle is one of them.

Blazers will match that offer unless ownership decides to stay closer to a minimum salary apron at this stage.

I heard 33 over 3 for thybulle viq shams, if true we've gotta match that's not bad at all and 3 years is pretty favorable in regards to extending shaedon eventually
If he ends up being unneeded we could easily flip him on that contract

I think with Dame heading out there's not much concern about said apron

Yeah we have to match that surely.PDXKnight wrote:I heard 33 over 3 for thybulle viq shams, if true we've gotta match that's not bad at all and 3 years is pretty favorable in regards to extending shaedon eventually

The only way we don't was if it was for goodwill reasons, but at some stage teams need to look after themselves first and foremost, not be excessively concerned about what athletes earning $10m+ per year make.

The Spurs received an unprotected 2030 pick swap from Dallas in exchange for absorbing Reggie Bullock's expiring contract.
Geez, I would have absolutely loved Portland to get in on that.....

Now the "reporting" is saying 3 years $33 million. Thanks, Dallas! Nice price if that's it.
... but full MLE is a match, too.

Shams gets good intell and has connections ... but he's on double secret probation for the GP bullcrap hack job he did for Golden State. Until and unless he does more than an edit, he stays right there!

With Philly signing Mo Bamba, I'd like Portland to pursue Paul Reed.

The contract Thybulle signed puts me close to 50/50 on if it’s worth matching. I’d lean let him walk though.
It makes me wonder if we’ve even offered a contract to a player who was in the NBA last year not named Jerami Grant.
At this rate I’m legitimately wondering who the **** we’re gonna fill our roster out with post a Dame trade, especially at the 5.
This is basically what’s left in free agency at Center. Don’t get blown away too quickly guys.
