For me it's the Detroit and New York deal that I wished we got in on. As to how the salaries would work, that's another question.BlazersBroncos wrote:elias808 wrote:BlazersBroncos wrote:How would we have made a trade with CHA? We are hamstrung by that CHI pick so our draft capital is inherently worth less than the future FRP CHA obtained as the team getting said pick is at best picking 2025, potentially later if we land lotto again.
Well we could have traded 7 for 13 and 15.
What was the indication that CHA wanted to move up rather than simply sit back for Mark and turn their other pick into future assets?
There isn’t anything to indicate CHA wanted to trade up in any way. If they moved 15 and 13 for 8, ya let’s have this conversation. But the direction they took was wholly different.

If we need C help due to injury we can find a 10 day guy to fill in, Giles and Maker fall in that bucket.
Eubanks is better than people here are giving him credit. He had good advanced stats in San Antonio and plays with a lot of energy. His career BLK% of 4.0 indicates he has potential as a rim protector. He's a very efficient, low usage rate scorer who gets a LOT of dunks (even though he only played 22 games for POR, he lead the team in dunks with 46).
He doesn't have the shooting range to spread the floor, and I need to see more of him defending the pick and roll, but he's a decent 2nd unit center that provides rebounding, rim protection and efficient scoring.
The biggest issue is Nurk's health. If Nurk goes down, POR will need to pick up a cheap, veteran center. I believe Boogie is still available. He was productive in both MIL and DEN last season, but neither team brought him back. Makes me wonder if after everything he's been through, he still has attitude problems. Perhaps playing with a veteran leader like Dame may help in that regard. Might be worth offering him a vet min deal.

Agree, and if (when?) Jusuf goes down we can just grab a 10-day guy like Boogie - who is now that level of player. He just cant defend at all, his footspeed laterally is just gone after all the injuries. He is still a good offensive player, albeit still a bit selfish / gunnerish.
Eubanks is fine, if he could shoot the 3 and defend the PNR he would have a MLE deal somwhere. You just cant find those guys very easily, especially on a backup C salary.
His toughness and hustle is exactly what the FO is trying to build here.

Chauncey isnt bringing a personality like Hassan into Portland. They clearly are prioritizing character and hustle. Whiteside is a cancer.

As a backup C he is fine, he is a pretty damn bad starter. He hunts for blocks like it's going out of style which constantly puts him out of position.
If all you look at is BPG he looks incredible, but to get those blocks he sacrifices team defense.

I am guessing here, but I think Whiteside is the antithesis of what Chauncey is looking for.

Re: 2022 Summer league
I would opt for a project center as opposed to the Whiteside's of the world. It's why I don't
understand why Portland was so eager to trade away the draft rights to Ismael Kamagate.
Kamagate is likely going to be a candidate to be a two way player for the Nuggets. Nobody
knows if the guy will ever play in the league but he's an athletic 6-11 230 lb player who
offers what Eubanks or Watford do not offer. Instead they seemed content to get a 2024
SRP who might also might never play in the league.

Yeah that was a head scratcher, I was thinking oh this guy is a perfect project but yeah whatever.
Speaking of which I wonder what our final roster will look like assuming we don't make any other small moves.

Not sure the concern here....
You state we traded Kamagates rights who may never play in the league for a future pick whom we dont know if they can play in the league.
Seems equal to me.
Based on what I saw watching Kamagate - I don't think it is much of a loss.

Final roster is already set. We have 15 guys under contract. we are done.
I would expect to see a second 2-way guy signed, but that is about it.

Portland doesn't seem to have signed any notable undrafted players who might be a candidate for a two
way contract. Luke Garza is awfully slow to be on an NBA roster while Kyle Alexander is 25 years old. It
would be beneficial to add a second two way contract player, hopefully a big bodied two way player.

Re: 2022 Summer league
Keon Johnson is having a very solid summer league, 17.2 ppg and really happy to see his shooting improvement at 48% and 40% from 3. He shot the 3 near 35% last yr for the Blazers so it seems he is becoming a capable shooter. Kid is only 20 yrs old and could become a very good defender as well. Hopefully this continues and he gets some minutes this season, good stuff so far and yes, it is summer league, but I like what I see
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
