Oof. It’s only SL, and he’s probably still not in game shape, but Brandon Miller goes 1-8 with 6 fouls in the first half. Blazers may have dodged a bullet with that one…
Thank g-d Scoot went 3rd…I don’t think I could stomach Ant being the PG for a whole season.

As for guys that may soon be Blazers -
Nikola Jovic - 27min, 7-12 FG, 2-4 3PT, 5-7 FT, 8 RBD, 3 AST, 4 TO, 21 PTS, +12
Jamie Jacquez Jr - 22min, 8-15 FG, 3-7 3PT, 3-3 FT, 4 RBD, 1 AST, 2 TO, 22 PTS, +10
Doesnt mean much, but nice to see.

Re: Summer league 2023
Miller has been showing some good ballhandling and ability to drive, but he also had some issues imo with separation and a first step unless he had a full head of steam or the guy went under the pick it felt like.
He's having some issues with strength sometimes but that I wouldn't worry about for him, he's playing against grown men and lost some weight because of his illness. My concern would be on watching to see if he can get better with the separation and the first step on a consistent basis.
He also had some issues on reaching in on a lot of fouls. But rookie, of course.
But he is being done absolutely zero favors by the guards on his team. Zero.

I didn't watch this game in case Dame trade talk came up because I cannot stomach hearing that from people on a national level. Hell, it's bad enough with Aaron Fentress losing his damn mind. But my friend watched for me since he's a Lakers fan. He said Jovic was showing good strength added and skills, though he'll need to prove those can translate against NBA players. He said Jamie looked like a vet on offense with good roleplayer potential while needing to improve on defense. But he said Jamie played very under control he felt like.

They are both smart, unselfish offensive players and the game on that side of the ball is not too fast for them. Both put effort in on the other side of the ball but lack the quick twitch to ever excel IMO. Jamie probably will end up a better defender than Jovic, but I could see him limited to PF (As Jovic is) due to footspeed issues at SF.

Re: Summer league 2023
Hornets losing by 29 to the Spurs who are playing without Victor
Looking forward to July 9, not for more Dame talk but to see the SAS vs Portland, hopefully
with Victor vs Scoot. The SAS have a rematch with the Hornets and hopefully we'll all get to
see the new phenom
One can only imagine if Portland had won the lottery, we'd have Victor/Sharpe on our summer
league team

It'll be interesting to see how Murray compares to potential Blazers Jovic/JJ. Murray will likely play a similar
role to them in Portland

No reason to think we couldnt use all 3 - the team has a lack of young talent at F. Little can be moved as well for all I care, done with him.
Miami board is already saying they wont include Jacquez or Jovic in a Dame trade lol.

LOL at Miami. they already lost a couple of solid guys in FA, may lose out on Dame with that attitude

Yeah, when I did my Miller deep dive this is exactly what I saw. His feet are a bit of a mess, so what can look like a flashy handle actually ends up amounting to nothing because he can’t get separated. It was passable at the college level, but against NBA level defenders who are stronger than he is? I expect a lot of frustrations and poor shooting games.

It’s one summer league game ya’ll… calm it down. You can’t project anything about a pick based on one summer league game. Even if you see flaws in their game individually, players can usually correct those in a few years. If you see flaws, the player sees them too, and they work to get better at those things if they care about their jobs.
Also what you guys are complaining about is what Dame asked out for. Even if it’s a highly touted pick, they have flaws they need to correct that will take time.

Looks like he played much better in the second half to have a respectable game.
Duster, I’m not talking about the SL game. I’m talking about the 12 full Miller games I watched on slow-mo. So no…I won’t “calm down” my view of him as a player. Will he be a good NBA player? It’s too soon to say, but I expect he’ll be fine.

Things can be much worse for just imagine if Miller is an average pro while Scoot blows up.

Re: Summer league 2023
I'm getting pretty hyped for a Scoot/Shaedon back-court, will be very fun to see two guys with size and strength being their advantages instead of weaknesses. In some ways both kind of fit my ideal of a proto-typical player for their positions with Scoot being a natural playmaker and Shaedon being that dynamic scoring threat that teams will devote defenders to keep the ball out of his hands and let Scoot do his thing. But I think we could see a lot of lobs back and forth between both of them and hopefully a ton of dunks. Smash bros? Slam bros?

Simons actually has a place with Scoot/Sharpe for he provides a catch and shoot element
to their games.

I'm sorry, but no. I think that's a very disingenuous take on our comments. So please don't tell me to calm it down. I stated what I saw. He was showing good ballhanding and ability to drive when he was able to get a full steam and when guys went under the pick. That's a positive for him. But struggled with separation and first step, that's a bit harder to improve upon and is something people noticed some issues with as the NCAA year went on. I hope that improves for him, but it is important to note those concerns are showing up against grown men too.
This is not watching the box score and judging on his stats.
No one is even saying Miller is a bust here. We pointed out his positives too.

I would take Herro over Anfernee Simons.
Herro 6'5
Simons 6'3
Scoot with Herro give better size ...
same age (Simons a smidge older)
similar size contracts
people keep mentioning Herros D but he was -0.8 DPBM and Simons was -2.5 last year
if it were me, I'd move on from Simons and get picks for him. Put Shaedon at SF, he's 6'6 200 pounds.

Went ham watching hs vids and interviews of a lot of the lottery a couple nights ago.
I guarantee we dodged a bullet further understanding the situation with the gun/murder and his complete lack of personal regret or acceptance of the fact of his very clear participation.
Let’s move on, we dodged a bullet with his parents understanding of the situation with him, but even further - let’s get on the court. Miller will be out of the league after 6-7 years or in a significant decline of interest at that point.
Dude is ego - maniac. We all battle the inherent fight, but it’s diff. Scoot is alpha, and wise beyond his heads, BM is not alpha, he’s just physically gifted and will completely crumble under the pressure, the process, the business.
I would put good money on Portland getting the 1b of this draft.
If Wemby becomes TD lite (maybe without the dynasty) and Scoot becomes CP3 lite (maybe without the longevity?) I will say we did quite well. I have the rest of this draft class including BM largely below those two.
Let me be clear. Miller may even average 20 over the course of a season this year or next. Not the impact I care about OR Portland cares about.
Scoot is the gem and we got him guys, that is all.
