Again - we tried to get Bridges and OG. We were rebuffed. Those teams (BRK / TOR) were both in the 'lets see if it works' phase. They just recently ticked into the 'cash the chip when its on the table' phase.
Like, trading #7 for OG would have been INSANE to me. And it was still rebuffed by TOR. Masai was not looking to rebuild at that stage - he still had a high from winning the championship and thought a retool w/ the same core pieces could do something. Clearly that was not the case and he finally rebuilt. We just didnt have the timing.

It sounded like Toronto was really wanting multiple picks out of us for og, iirc it was 7 plus 2 more unprotected which could have been a boat load. Quickley is a pretty solid piece moving forward but yes but it does feel like timing was everything there.
On the flip side that Deni trade was timing working much more in our favor. 14 is a meh pick in this draft and so really that 2029 first was the major cost of doing business in that deal. Most nba pundits say we hit it out of the park with Deni and honestly compared to what og would have cost both in trade at the time and in an extension I tend to think they're right. Not to mention getting him to re sign in Portland would've been a long shot quite possibly. I do tend to agree in portlands shoes 7 would have been an overpay by itself but thankfully masai pushed for all the marbles to the point it was an obvious no

Re: Knicks and Blazers
OG only made sense if we kept Dame, which he wanted out. Now, we just hope that Sharpe reaches his potential. Darius Miles floor, Vince Carter ceiling.
Wizenheimer: didn't you say the same thing about Elliot Williams?
Yeah... I love athletic wings. Boom or bust.

Because love can burn like a cigarette.
