They just sold low on a player that basically drove them to the NBA finals 8 months ago. Something is up here that the general public doesn't know about.

In the new CBA I guess I can understand the Mavs balking at giving Luka a supermax...but taking a terrible deal for an older player that shortens their championship window IF AD even stays healthy, while only dealing with the Lakers just. makes. no. sense.

The idea that the Mavs are a contender after subtracting Luka and adding AD is absurd. And why on earth would you not let a bidding war occur for Luka?

Don't get me wrong: it's a shocking, no, horrifying deal for Dallas.

But wild things happen. The surviving Mavs could surprise us all and play their tails off, mesh perfectly, and go on a big-time run. It will NOT justify trading away Luka, but it could happen.

While I agree totally with the sentiment, idk about Luka and athletic prime going hand in hand

Not sure Fox was dumb. Have you spent meaningful time in Sacramento?

It does appear current Mavs ownership has payroll limits but my comment had nothing to do with
the player but to do with a seemingly idiotic trade.

Apparently Doncic conditioning concerns are valid for he's been playing PG this season at 270 lbs.
Paying Doncic $345 million/5 no matter how talented the player is might not be smart if he's going
to be close to 300 lbs by the time of his extension.

I'm just still genuinely stunned with this. How did the Mavs GM let himself get talked out of assets by Pelinka? He had multiple picks and Kentch on the table as used Luka's conditioning issue as a way to keep those assets... literally zero pushback whatsoever then from Dallas side.

Over the hill Dame? He put up 32 points the season prior on incredible efficiency. I cant effing stand revisionist bs like this. Dame is putting up 45 40 90 this year with 25 7 and 5 at 34, 2 years later. Over the hill dame lol foh

You missed my main point, id agree the production was there. Was mostly referring to his age not production. At only 25 doncic should've been worth a good amount more than a 31 Dame at his prime soon to decline

After just turning 41 last month I guess i laugh at the idea of 31 being over the hill, even 34. I would kill to be 34 again. I think the way athletes are taking care of themselves these days their prime can be extended into their mid 30's or later pretty easily. Dame, Steph, Lebron, KD, etc have all showed minimum signs of decline.

Doncic is someone I would worry about however based on all the things said about his weight and conditioning but he's only 25.

Yeah, it's like anyone shopping for a new car should know to check around find other deals and use that info to negotiate a lower price. But this high paid general manager doesn't know the first thing about how to negotiate a deal?

I also like how the dual excuse of him being expensive to resign and he's also a flight risk are trotted out side by side. It's one or the other! That's how you can tell they are just fishing for any and every excuse.

It's really looking like this might boil down to the GM having a personal problem with Luka.

Yeah, the Mav spin has been laughable. Just absolute amateur hour in Dallas with that organization.

Reports were that they did talk to one other team, it was the Bucks but they weren't interested... no word on what the offer was, but likely guessing they wanted Giannis and passed. But after that... just ring the Lakers and get the deal done so he can make a dinner reservation I guess?

Does anyone else expect Davis to have all sorts of injuries again, now that he is Way from Lebron? It almost seemed like Davis felt he had to play because Father Time was suiting up on the same roster. I could be way off base, but it wouldn't surprise me if he started missing games.
