Crazy, with how poorly it seems the team has played up to this point.

wut?

Portland has also won 7 games by 4 points or less. If they would have lost all 7 games they'd have the 4th worst record. Splitting those games they'd have the 10th worst record

the Blazers are .500 on games decided by 4 or less, a 7-7 record. Just isolating the losses without the context of the win is an incomplete picture. Portland's SOS ranges from 25th-27th depending on where you look. They are 2 games above .500 having played 2 more games at home then on the road. They have exactly 1 win against the top-10 teams (top 5 in either conference).

I keep waiting for some kind of positive trend to develop but I haven't seen any yet

Hehe, yeah I didn't mean it in a way that was supposed to glorify what the Blazers have done. I think we all know the mediocrity the Blazers have been mired in. I meant it more as shining a light on the weird parity/mediocrity in the West. I thought that the projected top 6-7 teams would have much better records to this point.

ok...got it

and you're right. It could be by the end of the season there could be 6 teams in the west all within 3-4 wins from each other and all pretty close to .500

I can't help but wonder how Lonzo Ball's teammates feel about how much drama his father brings to their team and if that's creating any sort of schism between him and his teammates...

Jason Kidd gets the axe. As a player, Jason Kidd got Byron Scott fired. Now its Jason's turn to be fired. It's a tough job and even great coaches get fired. But, I suspect Jason is one of those great players who doesn't have the personality to coach other players.

Interesting to see if Dame makes the All-Star team today. Surely he wont get snubbed 3 times in a row.

I tell you what though if they have Klay/CP3 over him I'll be MAD. Lou Williams sneaky chance as well but hopefully Dame pulls through!

I don't have a cool avatar image because Dame came home.

I had to do a double-take...the article actually did say the Mavs would trade Matthews if they got back a 1st....pretty funny....but them maybe I'm overestimating the intelligence of all 29 other GM's

Honestly though, Turner and a decently protected 1st (Top 20 in perpetuity) for Wes may not be a bad idea. I'd love to have Wes back at SF.

Musings:

Late last night in my internet wanderings, I came across this old article (yay newborn babies)...

http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2017/09/anthony_morrow_fighting_yet_again_for_nba_career_w.html

The article (in particular, Lillard's comments on Morrow not missing a shot in scrimmages and Davis speaking on the value of veteran players) mixed with the second half of the game last night--one in which Turner didn't play, and at least to my eye looked more synergistic than has been typical, got me thinking...

Do you think the Blazers would have been better off this season with Morrow on the roster rather than Turner?
Curious about people's thoughts one way or the other. And yes, I understand that these will be completely hypothetical situations.

There were a few of us who were confused about why the Blazers cut Morrow so soon, rather than waiting until his small salary counted against the cap. If nothing else, he has an NBA skill--outside shooting, which is more than somebody like Layman, whom at this point has yet to show a translatable NBA skill.

sure seem to be a lot of season ending and months long injuries lately...Cousins, Conley, Andre Robertson, Kahwi Leonard, Thabo Sefolosha, Lonzo Ball....I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of players

maybe it's no different then years past but it does seem a bit heavy right now

God am I glad Chandler Parsons ended up in Memphis over Portland. I probably should be a lot more in the anti-Olshey camp than I am just given the fact he even bothered to take a meeting with him, let alone offer the kind of money he did...

God that guy is such a freaking prick. The league will be a better place when he's out of it.

Sounds like Conley has been battling a bone spur for awhile this season and they finally just decided to do the surgery since their season was lost anyway. Leonard's situation has been on-going all year with serious questions about how bad he still is and if the Spurs are being overly cautious.

The only two that really shocked me were obviously Cousins and Roberson. Those two came out of nowhere and hit back to back. Sounds like Robersons was a case of being rushed back though, the injury he was battling throughout the year was a strained patellar tendon in that he was rushed back for and then it ruptured. Someone on the Thunder staff should really be fired for that.

Glad I won't have to watch him in the game tomorrow. My least favorite active player in the NBA.

Greg Monroe and the Suns apparently have agreed to a buyout

where is his most likely destination?...maybe the Pelicans?

Nah, I'm thinking Celtics or Cavs.

could be, although if he's playing for his next contract, New Orleans would give him plenty of opportunity to showcase himself (but maybe Cleveland would give him opportunities with Love out). I'm surprised he's only 27...I kinda thought he was a couple of years older than that

His game being so antiquated makes it seem like hes older than he is.
