All those trades people did in the offseason to get better while we stood pat. Only 1.5 games from home-court. 4 games from Spurs. Highest winning percentage at this time in the season post-LMA.

Fun fact Wednesday:
San Antonio has won 50 or more games in 20 consecutive seasons. (In the lockout shortened season of 98/99 they were 37-13, a 61 win pace). That streak may be in danger this year. To reach 50 wins this year they will need to finish 15-8 or better, which is well above their current pace.

Also, in the Spurs 45 year history they have missed the playoffs just 5 TIMES!

the story was the Blazers talked to Philly and the 76ers were asking for Kersey and Robinson, but that was too high a price for the Blazers

personally, I think Portland would have won another championship if they would have done that deal. A starting-5 of Porter-Drexler-Barkley-Buck-Duck would have been pretty unstoppable

This is true. Barkley was actively working on forcing Sixers to trade him and Blazers was his 1st choice team. Geoff Petrie was running the team then and he didn't do the trade, but a deal was supposedly real close. Petrie obviously screwed up big time by not making a deal. A deal would have been done if Whitsitt was running the show. Whitsitt would have used the opportunity to combine Drexler, Porter, and Williams with Barkley to create a super-team that could beat MJ. Also, Whitsitt would have had Sabonis here in Portland earlier.

Egads...imagine if the Blazers were able to bring Sabonis over earlier and had made that Barkley trade?

Porter
Clyde
Kiki
Barkley
Sabonis

That's like a Dream Team.

Kiki was gone before the Barkley trade talks. We could have had Sabonis in 1989 and won some Championships before MJ's Bulls emerged. The Barkley trade would have happened in '92. Whitsitt started in '94.

Edit: Whitsitt wasn't as constrained by the CBA as Olshey is. When you change the rules you change the game. Olshey can't make deals as easily as Whitsitt could. Olshey needs to be a great drafter of talent and a strategic thinker to juggle all the cap and tax complexities.

I remember the Barkley to Portland rumors...there were plenty of them. The rumored trade was Kersey & Cliff Robinson; Robinson was either a rookie or in in his 2nd season, IIRC, so if the trade happened, it would have been in 1990 or early in 1991.

Barkley was trying to be part of a super team with a great shot at a championship.

if it would have gone thru, the Blazers would have had a Porter-Drexler-Barkley-Buck-Duckworth starting unit. And the bench would have had Danny Ainge, Mark Bryant, Danny Young, Wayne Cooper, and Alaa Abdenalby. For sure, adding a 27 year old Sabonis to that mix would have guaranteed some championships

Dame could win MVP for Team Steph if they don't choke the lead.

He is leading in points (by 1) but hasn't contributed as much elsewhere as others who are near him in scoring (DeRozan/Towns). If he is put in, knocks down a couple more shots and Team Steph wins, he does have a serious chance of winning it. I see DeRozan getting it if Team Steph wins with being from LA being the tie-breaker for the voters.

DeRozan has just as many rebounds and assists as Dame. Plus, look at Lowry's bad shooting. He screwed up a few of potential assists for Dame.

DeRozen got put back in. If he scores, he leads Team Steph in points.

Well, Team Curry is choking anyway. Maybe Team Steph would have won if they actually put Lillard back in ;)

I don't like LeBron, but he clearly deserves it. I'd rather see him get it than DeRozan based on performance alone.

On that last play, Dame should have been in the game. He's known for hitting big time 3's in the clutch and he was feeling it this game.

Karma for Team Steph not putting Dame in!
