So....can Portland do a refund on that Grant deal?

Geezus Christ. The deal was bad assuming Dame wanted to stay.

Now that he has requested a trade?

Yikes.

It's fine. Grant doesn't have negative value. You really think we couldn't trade him for Tobias Harris?

It's a pointless move either way, though.

It's a terrible contract both ways with or without Dame.

At this point, it has to be a complete fire sale - Jusuf included and move forward with Sharpe and Scoot.

I'm for it. I doubt Boston does it though.

I’m a Boston fan, I’m a fan of Brown but that supermax Boston would have to give him is too much. A regular max deal in Portland would be a good fit. I like Dame but he’s getting up there in age

Dame will age gracefully, dropping many 3s likely into his 40s

Grant is the type of player we want next to Scoot and Sharpe. Learning to play with a guy like Grant is important to their development. Worst case scenario they learn with Grant for 6 months and he gets traded for expirings.

Um you know Tobias Harris himself is negative value right? So you’re saying being able to trade him for another awful contract makes his contract a good one?

I bet Grant can be traded for Ben Simmons too. Doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.

It’s obvious even Dame thinks of it as a massive overpay for Grant that severely handicaps the team going forward. Paying that kind of $$ for a complete non-star is just absolutely insane and probably what gave Dame the final push to ask out.

I guess so.

Who knows what was the situation when Grant signed the contract - whether he knew Dame was or was not staying.

Either way, he got paid.

Grant still better value than VV!! Blazers will have to meet the cap floor as well if they get expiring's back for Dame

I hope this team stays true to finding the best deal possible, Dame should have some input in a trade, but completely bowing to any request he has if it's only like 2 teams is ridiculous.

Dame said his dream off-season was acquiring Green and re-signing Grant he also before that said he wanted to move the #3 pick for a win-now piece. Neither of these things happened, so we were seeing signs that he wanted the team to move in a certain direction.

I don't think Dame would have been livid that Grant was at most a $5ish million overpay it's not like we gave Grant a max contract. If you look at portion of the cap the deal that Grant got in 2023 was similar to the CJ payday way back. There also is some speculation that Grant was told he would be taken care of no matter what as we were resting our better players to lose most of our games as the season closed.

Grant would have 100% wanted to show his best games as the season closes if the Blazers were not indicating they were offering him a very nice deal. Again Dame wanted a win-now move not a team that might be damn good in 3 years, I think our young guys have a ton of potential but it's not like Dame is 26 or something.
