A career as a shot blocker reserve is needed on any roster. And for a 2nd? What quality veteran big could we get from a 2nd?

Also, our largest need was arguably bench scoring... Cj and most likely crabbe will be ready to contribute right away.

Considering what it cost for Utah to obtain Gobert I would have liked to obtain him. Yes he is raw but if he develops he becomes a starter in a few years. Perhaps he becomes the next Hibbert. we needed to add size and outside of Withey we failed. The longer we wait to address that problem the harder it will become. Furthermore in free agency there are a lot of proven scorers at guard. Not so much talent available among big men

One thing to consider is that these 2nd round picks could be part of a deal that can't be announced until the blazers have cap room.

I like our first three picks but on the last 2 yes he blew it. A euro we will never see and a lanky, weak shooter over a sure thing at pf, as a instant role player and bpa on top of that, as well as the highest scorer in college. Those should've been no brainer picks.

If he just went bpa we would be stacked with assets. That's all I wanted. I just don't get it....

Olshey blew it. He passed on Franklin, muscala, Carmichael, and green. What's wrong with him? I was high on all 3 of those guys. Those were great assets, and had he go bpa 2 of those guys would be Blazers right now.

Only Blazer fans can declare their GM a bum for not picking a handful of guys who might not even play a second of NBA basketball.

Overall, a pretty entertaining night. Some thoughts.....

*Cleveland really started out with a bang by taking Bennett. The chain of events that set off in the Top 10 was a blast to watch unfold.

*Oladipo @ 2 wasn't a huge surprise, but it will be interesting to see how he pans out. GM's and scouts seem really split on him. Some think he's going to be really really good, others think he won't average more than 8 or 9 points per game for his career.

*Zeller going 4 was somewhat surprising considering a lot of mocks had him still around by 10, but I don't think it was a bad pick by the Bobcats. Considering the Cats had BY FAR the worst frontcourt the NBA had seen in some time last year, he should be a huge help for them. I could honestly see him in the running for ROY, if not winning it next year, since he'll be starting and getting huge minutes from Day 1.

*Noel slipping all the way to 6 was a shock alone, but then having that trade come down the pike with Philly, that was pretty stunning. Hopefully that gamble pays off for the Sixers, they lost a great young PG tonight for yet another C with knee problems. Risky move, no doubt, especially coming off that failed Bynum experiment. But they did get that 2014 pick, which could be pretty valuable. Great move for the Pelicans assuming they aren't high in the lottery next year. Holiday is miles better than any PG in this draft and is still quite young.

*CJ was a good BPA pick by Portland I think. I would have liked to get a guy who can potentially be more than a 6th man, but considering how the Top 9 shook out, I think they got the best guy who was still available. I'll be interested to see if his shooting is all it's hyped up to be.

*The big BOS/BKN trade going down during the trade was interesting. Most the talk was that wouldn't get done tonight. I'm glad it went down during it though so we all got to watch Bill Simmons mental breakdown live. That was classic. Man was he pissed off. As for the trade itself, we'll see I guess. The Celtics got absolute garbage in terms of actual players. Humpries and the 3 year/30 million dollar ghost of Gerald Wallace, that is complete trash right there. The picks.... I don't know the protection on them, so it's hard to say how good they'll be. The 2014 pick will suck as most of this current Nets team will still be around and really good. The 2016 and 2018 picks could be interesting depending on the protection since the Nets will inevitably be in some sort of rebuild by those years with how freaking old they'll be. However, until that team hits that age will, they should be pretty strong. DWill/Johnson/Pierce/KG/Lopez.... that's a solid starting 5. But again, only for 2 years at a max. It's also INSANELY expensive. I haven't even thought about how much they're paying for that roster, but it's got to be off the charts.

*2nd round picks for Portland, I like the Crabbie (spelling?) and Whithey picks. The other guys I don't really know much about, so who knows.

Very hard to say we failed at landing a veteran center with size and ability in the draft, when FA hasn't started and we have a substantial amount of money. (Referring to your 2nd post about having one quality big, thus failing)

I'm thinking we go after a vet backup pg, vet combo forward, and vet starting center.

I like the draft we ended up with. First 3 picks are good value picks on 3 NBA-ready players to fill out our bench. Jerrett is a project but could be a nice player if given time to develop. I can't really blame Olshey for not drafting the NBA-ready starting caliber center that we need to fill out the starting 5 when there isn't one in this draft.

Among the realistic possibilities who is a better option for Portland than Dalembert? I have been a big advocate for signing him but more as a stopgap until a young center can be developed and I don't want to be relying on Meyers Leonard as being that sole possible option to develop. We need options and we have did not get them in this draft

Also just means we didn't like the bigs in the draft or couldn't get em.

Great trade for New Orleans. #1 & #4 were total surprise pix, but didn't really change much after the top 10 picks. There was a general consensus for the Top 10, they just weren't sure what order they'd all fall. The Boston/Brooklyn trade should be interesting for Brooklyn.

Can't wait to hear about all of the trades. Are there any we don't know about just yet?

There were a lot of deals made for late firsts. We were involved in none. That meant we missed out on opportunities for a raw player like Gobert or Dieng to help our frontline if not now in the future. We needed to take some risks but we played it safe
