Yeah, it was half them assuming Portland was going to be an easy out and the other half wanting nothing to do with Houston in the first round.

I think the main argument for wanting the Thunder was Kanter vs. Adams being a better match-up than Kanter vs. Gobert. a healthy Nurkić or a healthy Paul George would have significantly swayed things.

I just never saw the C's as being the defining factors in either series. The team with the better players almost always wins and I'm just not that impressed by Utah's roster, Portland's top two guys were head and shoulders better than anyone on Utah. Even if you don't agree with that, I think it's a safe to say that they don't have anyone to the level of Dame, including Gobert. I hate comparing guards to C's, but in terms of who has the most impact on a game, Dame has bigger impacts on a game than Gobert because of his ability to completely take a game over, something Gobert cannot imo.

That wasn't the case for OKC on paper, but obviously the health of Russ and PG has played a significant part in evening the playing field. Well, that and Dame playing absolutely out of his mind.

Of course we'll never really know, so any kind of argument is sorta pointless...

But it all depends on what kind of broad strokes you want to look at. Sure, Lillard is probably the best player among the two teams. But that's looking at things in a pretty big vaccum. The Rubio/Gobert PnR is probably the most potent run play among the two systems. In fact, that duo is probably the most proficient in the entire NBA at running that play. That's an easy 2 points for Utah on a lot of their possessions, which in turn puts more pressure on the Blazers to make a high percentage of 3 pointers to make up for that efficiency.

Houston has had an easier time with Utah partially because CP3 is a smart, crafty defender of the PnR and Capela is good at defending the PnR. Both teams run it and so they kinda negate each other.

Neither Nurkic or Kanter are really good at defending PnR lob plays, as each plays pretty under the rim...but Nurkic understands how to get to his player earlier enough with his body to disrupt the rhythm of the opposing center. Kanter would get eaten alive on those possessions. And on the other end, at least in theory, Gobert's length really takes away any kind of inside advantage that Kanter would have had. It also REALLY would affect Lillard's drives to the rim.

Anyway, you could very well be correct. And I still think that Portland would take a series against Utah. That last game they played with Utah, didn't they beat them by something like 25 points?

tbh I'm really, really, really looking forward to also seeing if Denver/San Antonio is a painful case of 'be careful what you wish for' for Nuggets fans. I think the only positive for us in the fallout from Nurkic's injury is we have zero real expectations without Jusuf. So whatever happens to us.. if we lose, we expected it. If we win, well, damn. That's just a cherry on top after a really bad stroke of luck.

Speaking of Denver/SA....

Spurs look to be a problem for Denver. Nuggets are proving all the doubters right about a #2 seeds first time in the playoffs.

Man. Even though I'm still agitated about the refs last night, I don't feel nearly as bad after Utah somehow loses their game after Harden's complete disaster of a performance up until the very end.

Forgot Pat C is on the Bucks this year. I hope they have a really deep playoff run for his sake. Happy to see him having some success with them

Wow, that's a serious chunk of time. I wonder if he'll actually get that much. He'll be 48 when he gets out.

I'm always amazed that many of these players can't make careers overseas work. I guess being a fish out of water is hard for some people...

Spurs taking an early lead in this one. Hoping this series goes to seven games regardless. Won't make the mistake of 'hoping' for a specific opponent.

Theyre taking a late lead too.

Yeah im not hoping for any specific opponent. Having HCA would be nice, but the Spurs offer a lot of matchup problems for Portland. Then again, so do the Nugs, so itll be a battle regardless of who the Blazers pull.

And we have ourselves a game seven.

I think Denver wins but how nice would it be to have HCA?

The acronym TSE would still be pretty recognizable and a lot of people call you that anyhow :)
