This defense is looking good but dang the offense looks awful. I guess being a rush heavy team facing the second best rush defense in the country will do that. Even though the Oregon passing game is possibly the worst in the country without Herbert I wish taggart would at least attempt a few bombs since clearly nothing else is working...

well, he threw downfield in the 2nd half and got intercepted

I know Burmeister is a true freshman but for chrissakes, the guy is one of the worst passers I've seen. Jeff Lockie was better. Burmeister has no touch...none; he has lousy timing; and his accuracy is very poor. This is a guy who threw for 11,000 yards in high school?

making matters worse is he can't make reads and he can't go thru any progressions. Right now, he just about has to be the worst QB in the FBS. The Ducks need to look in the junior colleges or try and find another graduate senior. They need a decent backup and unless BB improves dramatically over the summer, he isn't it. I guess they have Tyler Shough coming in next season, but he's only a verbal and he isn't signed yet

I sure hope Herbert gets to be 100% over the bye week

Yeah BB is looking very raw at best. It's gotta be hard starting as a true freshman but even being a true freshman doesn't excuse this level of horrendous play. I really hope we get a better backup via recruiting because right now the talent clearly isn't there.

what a difference a QB makes. Herbert returns and Oregon looks like a top-10 team.

also, that Duck defense really showed up today

way too many penalties though

I see UCLA just fired Jim Mora. What are the chances they make a big run at Chip Kelly?

Dang it!
I was hoping he'd make it through the season to avoid the Chip question. But hopefully it will take time enough to put their recruits in play or have players the Ducks want hesitate on UCLA.

And the firing announced on Mora's birthday? That's rude.

It's that time of year. The turkey is defrosting in some homes and BY GAWD we have ourselves a Civil War. There will be NOTHING civil about the way the Beavers lose, BUT WE WILL LOSE IN AMAZING FASHION!

I'm hearing from the UCLA board that's its a near lock Chip Kelly ends up UCLA for they had to fire
Jim Mora because his talks with Florida were far along. Florida seems to be moving onto other
candidates.

UCLA's OC might be a candidate for the OSU job.

I still don't think Chip returns to college with how much he hates recruiting

Supposedly its Beau Baldwin to the Beavs. As an Oregon fan I think this is a FANTASTIC hire but I'm an outsider. Thoughts from Beaver fans if this is indeed your man?

Chip officially goes to ucla. Very shocking, I didn't think ucla had the muster to land that kind of coach.

it's going to be interesting to see how he does.

He'll be in a recruiting hotbed, but he's never like recruiting that much and will be going head-to-head against USC all the time

his success at Oregon was very lightning-in-a-bottle. That is to say he used a power-running spread offense and high tempo to overwhelm defenses when they were unprepared for either. But nowadays, defenses are much better prepared to confront spread offenses and tempo since most teams runs versions of both. Defensive players have been practicing against those tactics since high school (ironically, in no small part because of Chip Kelly)

at Oregon, his reputation as an offensive genius and innovator was strong. But he got on the wrong side of NCAA sanctions, completely failed to innovate in the NFL, and has a reputation as a short-term coach wherever he goes who wants back in the NFL. And of course, all of that will be used against him in negative recruiting

I think he's a good coach but I really doubt he's going to dominate like he did at Oregon. A large part of that will depend on the staff he hires.

In a time where the Blazers are struggling to beat the Nets, I find it more interesting to follow
college football.

It looks like Chip is going to hire a number of coaches with Oregon connections. Chip likely is his
own OC but Mark Helfrich is going to be the QB's coach. Cal looks to lose many of their assistants
if Beau Baldwin gets the OSU job for couple of their coaches likely will be going to UCLA to be with
Chip. Chip's coaching staff might look a lot like the Duck's staff from 2012 and it will be interesting
to see how much they can win with greater access to talent in Southern California.

Chip kind of came in during a perfect storm at Oregon. He was a part of our rise but at the same time a lot of the stars on defense were recruited under belotti. Shortly after chip left the defense and team in general fell apart and many blame helfrich for that but most of those guys were chip Kelly recruits

I agree it'll be interesting to see what he does. The thing that'll make this adjustment much harder than Oregon is the fact that he's completely new there. At Oregon he had time as an oc, a ucla he's putting in a new system with players that may not fit that system at least immediately. In a way ucla is pretty low pressure as he can probably get away with 7 and 8 win seasons there. Ultimately I think he does alright but I agree that it'll be hard for him to have as many things lined up for him at ucla
