Sign him but only if you have an empty pre season roster spot.

Because I seriously suspect his days as a useful NBA caliber player has been gone a long time ago.

Crowder to Phoenix for the MLE? That sucks!

Yeah, Holiday would have been a good get, especially...

We have the BAE, but there are a few problems with the S&T. I'm almost 100% sure we renounced (or will renounce) Whiteside to get the full MLE used to sign Jones. The other problem is we can't spend more than BAE without exceeding the tax threshold.

We can exceed the tax threshold even though we used the nontax MLE, but we are hardcapped at the apron. Nonetheless, we don't want to be taxpayer's this year. It's our last year before Lillard's supermax kicks in.

Might Batum be a best option available, as a vet min PG? ...Keeping in mind that at least one of Dame and CJ will be on the floor at all times

Dame / Batum / Simons
CJ / GTJ

Gotta admit, I've not followed Batum since he left the Blazers. I know hes been injured a lot. Is he any good anymore? Can he still defend?

No, not if we renounce him to get the non-taxpayer MLE. And, because we used the non-taxpayer MLE we are hard-capped at the apron.

I don't get why Hornet's gave Hayward that contract. Hayward is not going to hang around for a rebuild. I guess Hornet's are viewing it as an asset acquisition move. How is that working for Cavs?

Seems to me that the well is getting a little dry... Who's still available for us at this point, and what do we still need?

Vet PF/C, Vet PG? Is Melo or Batum on our radar? Will Gabriel sign QO? C'mon Olshey, you're killing us.

Portland still has their BAE to offer Nic who knows the system and could serve as their backup PG

Crowder was most likely not an option the second the Covington trade happened. Now Crowder+2 1sts versus Covington+Jones is certainly debatable.

Yeah, if the plan is to play Covington at SF, then Crowder was likely off the table. Would have loved to have both though. Would be great if there was a way to get Ariza back.

I am warming on the idea of trying to bring him back, and extending him an offer, but he may not cost that much. More on that in a sec, but there is a discussion to be had and a case to be made, though a weak one. I will do my absolute best to be honest in trying to understand, the man, Nic Batum.

I think he left Portland on fairly decent terms, went to the Hornets in short, for the money. Can't blame him for getting paid, which he did.

But what true Athletes want most, is to win. I can imagine Batum, now paid, becoming unmotivated eventually by the lack of a winning culture with the Hornets. Athletes, especially championship pedigree ones like Jordan and Kobe, absolutely HATE to lose.

I say offer a Vet-min to him, and give him a specific role to play. He's still only 31, with the same toolbelt Boris Diaw had, and could have an awesome old-man game for 5 more years, easy. This year, just come home and relax, while providing the depth he can 1-4.

There's also the reclamation project factor that we all know Olshey loves.

Lillard/?/Simons
CJ/Trent/CJ
Covington/Hood/Little
Collins/Melo/Jones
Nurkic/Kanter/?

Could still resign Gabriel and we have the BAE to use on a back up PG. Shabazz still seems like the best fit there

The well is tapped! SIGN BATUM!!! Also ink Gabriel, and go get some rest Olshey. I think I can speak for most everybody here... Pretty damn proud of you! Haters will ALWAYS hate, and Sportscenter will continue to rarely show us love, but I dare say, GM of the Year candidate with the best off-season of any other GM.

Finish the job!!!

Dame / Batum / Simons
CJ / GTJ / Jones / cj
ROCO / Hood / Little
Collins / Melo
Nurkic / Kanter / Gabriel

It would be fun to have Nic back, but I think he will want to goto a team with a bigger role for him. Whoever the Blazers get at backup PG needs to be OK with potentially racking up some DNP's and only probably playing situationally or largely being a mentor.

Speaking of running back some old Blazers for that spot though... one guy who I think would actually fit that role really nicely would be ET... He's definitely entering that "mentor" stage of his career. He is a decent defender and wouldn't need to really play every game, plus he knows the system and was well-loved by all the teammates that are still here. I think him on a 1yr BAE isn't the worst idea the more I've thought about it... especially when looking over the collection of other players available for that role at that price.

I'm not sure I agree. It could be said, that he just had that bigger role with the Hornets with it not ending so well, and he may prefer to come home to a minimum contract, fill the very role you describe, and get some Portland love from the fans.

I just can't imagine a single team investing anything into him right now other than us. He's likely viewed as Hot Garbage right now.

And Turner for the BAE... God no.
