Rudy Fernandez: "If I could reach an agreement with Portland, so that they would not trade me to another NBA team and they would accept my return to Europe, I'd be pleased." El Mundo Deportivo

Here's the agreement: go die.

If I remember right, El Mundo is rather shaky in terms of reliability. Either way, I am looking forward to Rudy being a former Blazer.

To add:

The coach of the Spanish national team, Sergio Scariolo, admitted to a Greek website that Rudy Fernández wants to leave the NBA and play in Europe next season, despite the interest of several American teams like the New York Knicks. The 25-year-old Spanish guard is unhappy in the Portland Trail Blazers, and is considering several offers from Spanish and Greek teams to go back to the European basketball. According to Scariolo, Panathinaikos would have similar chances as Real Madrid or Regal Barcelona to sign Fernández, who has also a list of five NBA teams (Knicks, Nets, Bulls, Heat and Celtics) where he would like to be traded.

Knicks: Fernandez for Chandler
Nets: Fernandez for Morrow
Bulls: Fernandez + Pendergraph for Gibson
Heat: Fernandez for ???
Celtics: Fernandez for ???

Portland does not need any players in return. Just dump Rudy to one of those 5 teams and get the best pick possible. Who knows how important his 1.6 mil TPE could be?

It'd be a 1.2 mil TPE, and I can't see that being very valuable at all, considering it can't be packaged with a player.

If Rudy would agree to a 8 year deal with a large buyout with a European club I would have no problem with the Blazers terminating his contract. I would die inside if Rudy were to play for the Suns or Knicks and light up the Blazers.

You have to wonder if this kid was promised somethings by the Blazer FO for him to come to Portland at the expense of sacrificing millions of dollars per year. He is probably feeling lied to and ripped off.

People tend to forget this point. He came here losing out on millions of dollars. How many players do that?

With that said, when given the opportunity (especially the playoffs) Rudy disappeared. In his defense, Nate's system does not exactly use his talents to his best ability. He played marvelously in the Olympics, and I do not believe it was an aberration. However, you cannot blame all of his failures on Nate' system. He has to own a lot of the responsibility.

The main issue today is he has now shot down his trade value (on purpose I am sure) and it may be hampering Portland's ability to perform a significant consolidation trade. None of the teams on his wish list own a player worthy of consolidating Portand's talent for, which means Rudy will either be let go to Europe for nothing or traded for garbage / a pick from the teams on his wish list. What it also means is the likelihood of Portland not being able to consolidate again this year and or that more players like Bayless, Batum and potentially Oden will absolutely have to be included in such significant consolidation trades.

In conclusion, the Rudy situation, as well as most of the European picks, have produced very little and could end up hurting the franchise instead.

True dat. Rudy's gotta be feeling pretty dumb about that decision.

I bought it the night he got hit from behind while going up for the dunk against the lakers. I was trying to figure out which one to buy and, since that was the height of his popularity, that decided for me. Massive fail for my manhood, and eventually the money I wasted on that damn jersey

I'd gladly dump him for a pick at this point. Take what we can get and let his habitual Europe discussions be some other team's problem.

Well, if Rudy didn't suck he would be in line for a contract much larger than anything you can get in Europe. It was a gamble, Rudy ended up sucking. Rudy lost.

I feel the same way. His stock is dropping by the day. I would gladly take a second round pick for him and move on. Or, if we have something bigger in mind he definitely needs to be involved.
