patty scored 13 points in 18 minutes , 1 steal ,2to,2ast 1 foul,3 rebounds in australian win over china (yi jianlian 17points 10 rebounds )
The Boomers’ Australian NBA duo of David Andersen and Patrick Mills teamed up to score the winning basket for Australia. With one second left to play, Mills drove to the hoop and found Andersen, who made an acrobatic lay-in.

Mills top-scored for the Boomers with 13 points, while Matt Nielsen added 12. Joe Ingles, Mark Worthington and Andersen all chipped in with eight points apiece. For China, it was their NBA players who shone. New Jersey Nets star Yi Jianlian had a game-high 17 points while former Dallas Maverick and LA Clipper Wang Zhizhi had 12.

Boomers’ head coach Brett Brown said Mills and Andersen showed their NBA class with the final play.

“We called a time out and made sure we got the ball to Patty, and he made a great play to find David,” Brown said. "David then made a difficult, skilled shot. That was just two NBA players making plays. They got us over the line.”

i honeslty dont know about patty. To me he resemles on bayless in a range of aspects. Perhaps it would be wiser to add a defensive guard.

I don't dislike Patty, but him being retained is going to hinge on the kind of moves are made with Rudy and the point guard spot in general. We might like him as a sparkplug or shooter off the bench if Bayless and/or Miller get moved.

Save for the final basket (which while a solid pass was more the work of Andersen) and a few other plays Patty didn't really have that much impact on the game

Going to have to dissagree with that, Australia were 14 points down when Mills came back on in the second half, he scored 6 points and his 2 assists came in the period where the Boombers got back to within 2 points, he then sits for a few minutes, and comes back on to give off the game winning dime.

with out a doubt was the catalist for the Aussies win.

i thought patty played well too.

anyway, let me re-quote Jason Fleming regarding three blazers PG:

Jason Fleming:
I don't think Johnson is a point guard in the NBA, so there's my answer. They need a pure point guard on their bench, and Bayless and Williams are not pure point guards. Mills played very well in Summer League. What I expect will happen is Portland will make some kind of 2-1 trade, and then keep Mills and Johnson.

I don't care too much whether Patty stays or not he's a good guy if we get injuries and need to dig very, very, very deep... we could do worse. However i just don't see his game improving too much more.. thought I would love to be proved wrong.

I dont understand that thinking, one thing that most people can agree on with Mills is that he is RAW. Which acutally means there is more scope for improvement.

Mills flaws are this

he is small.
and he turns the ball over to much
apparently weak on D

ok, he aint goingto suddenly get taller, but hey, he is still taller than Aaron Brooks and CP3 and has their wheels.

He turns the ball over not because of technique, his issues there are he goes for flashy passes, thats fine, you can train that out of him, the ones he hit in summerleague and for Australia, some of them where brilliant. He does see the court well, especially in the open floor, and his ball handling is certainly above average. His cross over combined with his first step is what makes him dangerous on offence.

Defense is somthing you can learn. If you can read a game on the offensive end, which he can, then its silly to suggest that he cant translate that anticipation into the defensive end. I think his speed is enough of a weapon on the defensive end to make up for 2-3 inches if he can stay ahead of his man.

As I said I would love to be wrong.. but lets face it man Patty may get a little better, but some guys "got it" and some guys don't. Patty just doesn't have "it" too expect too much more is to be waiting for heartbreak my friend. It's fine to put yourself out there... but wait for the one that is worth it... Patty is a 3rd string g it's life.

Eh, Patty is not the right choice for this team. Armon Johnson looks to be much more of a true pg prospect than Patty.

. patty vs usa (a team not this summers b team) in olympics 28min 20 points 3 steals ,2assists and no turn overs . i think he has 'it'
but probably not with this team style . johnson is a better fit for portland . patty need a new york , warriors style

ahh, no he is not, they are actually the same height, and Patty has a few pounds on him

I honestly see him somewhere around the Brooks mark as far as ceiling is concerned.

I know what your saying about the 'it' factor BM, having seen a lot of his international play, he has 'it' in spades, its whether its NBA 'it' and for mine, its worth finding out.

The shooting is nice, but that bolded bit is what makes me cringe when I watch Patty play ... he doesn't have the best "live ball" when he's stationary and is prone to not only making silly, ill-advised passes, and gets his pocket picked pretty often.

If Miller and Bayless get moved for a clear-cut 35 mintue/game starter I'd be happy to keep him around as the third point behind <fill-in-the-blank> and Johnson, but he's not somebody I trust to run an offense and really set up other people like Batum, Oden and Aldridge.

Our bench guards need to be able to play solid defense and move the ball consistently. We're not looking at them to score basically at all, and that is most of what Patty does. He's not the best passer, he tends to over dribble and he doesn't have the explosiveness to capitalize.
