G.W. to come off the bench.

Post#1 » by Mr Odd » Sat Feb 26, 2011 2:21 am

Yep, the news is creeping out, its said that Nate wants
to bring Wallace off the bench as the 6th man, our 2nd
best player will be coming off the bench. Awesome!!!!!!

:banghead:

Im sure its going to end up being another Blake/Miller
thing where after 20 games Nate will finally see the light.

You know what, I've had G3 on my Blazers team in 2K for the past 2 years. I always had his come off the bench behind Nic. But Wallace always finished the game/had more minutes.

And I find it incredibly scary that it's coming to life.
Dammit...:

I've got Nurkic fever now.

People put waaaay too much emphasis on who starts. Both Batum and Wallace will play 30+ MPG and both will be used to close-out games (more often than not, anyways). I've already heard an audio clip from Nicolas saying that he's fine coming off of the bench if it helps the team, but ultimately I think bringing Wallace in off of the bench, primarily at the '4', is the right call once we get Camby back.

This is approximately how I would run the rotation (if it were up to me :D ):

Miller-32 / ???
Matthews-32 / Fernandez-16
Camby-28 / (Aldridge)-20
Batum-32 / Roy-16
Aldridge-14 / Wallace-34

The only real questions, for me, are:
- who gets the back-up minutes at PG (Roy, Rudy, Mills, Johnson, Ford, Bibby, etc.)?
- what big men are out there to bring in as 'insurance' for Aldridge, Wallace, & Camby?

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and obviously if B-Roy's able to round back into form, then that could change things quite drastically.

I have no problems with it. Pop had manu come off the bench for years even though he was a top 3 player. Wallace doesn't know any of the offense and can have a bigger role playing with the second unit until he becomes more comfortable with the team. Excellent move by Nate in the short term.

I have no problem with it. I just hope that if it doesn't look like it is working out for whatever reason, Nate will adjust accordingly.

Sorry guys but that's insane. GW is a starter....no doubt. If McMillan thinks Batum is better than Wallace or even a better fit in the lineup he is dead wrong.

While Batum hasn't done much starting this year, I'm all one for keeping the flow going, and I think that'll be the easiest way to integrate Wallace and Roy into what we've got going this year. If it's incredibly obvious that Batum just doesn't belong starting in front of the savvy vet, I hope a veteran coach has at least the brains enough to make the change at that point in time. Let's be clear here though. Wallace is better than Batum in most aspects of the game currently. The move is not cause Wallace is the inferior player.

I guarantee Wallace starts soon enough. Or Nate is just (Please Use More Appropriate Word), which I guess is a definite possibility...

Wow people are freaking out for no reason. He said he will come off the bench at least for the short term. Batum has been in the system and Wallace is just stepping into it.. Wallace will take over soon enough... Nothing wrong with working him in

Wallace will eventually be starting. Why must we go through this nonsense again?

I'm actually willing to let this play out for a while rather then pre-judging

for one thing, if Camby keeps missing games, Wallace will probably be starting soon, maybe even by Sunday

for another thing, there are some legitimate reasons that working Wallace into the offense might take a while...

one being that Wallace has never really played with a low-post presence like Aldridge, so he might have some added adjustment besides just adapting to a new team.

there would also be a concern about a starting lineup of Miller-Matthews-Wallace-Aldridge-Camby. Matthews is the only player there with enough of a consistent deep shot to stretch the defense. Will the rest of the Blazers be tripping over each other and will spacing be a problem?

Nate didn't have any trouble about replacing Batum in the starting lineup with Matthews earlier in the year. I doubt he'll have much trouble doing the same with Wallace

Camby
Aldridge
Wallace
Mathews
Miller

What is the problem? Only one shooter in the bunch. If you have a PG who can't shoot, you box yourself in and need the SG AND SF to be able to shoot or have some stretch 4. This in addition to Nate's need to have vets prove themselves will keep him from starting for awhile. But he will see plenty of minutes.

Meh, I'll be upset if he's not starting a week from now. But it is usually the typical M.O. to bring a guy off the bench.

Batum is good, but Wallace is miles better right now. Even if Nate was completely dead set on keeping Wallace on the bench, he'd almost assuredly change his tune within a week.

This.

Dante started at the four plenty of times. Crash would fit in very nicely in our hopelessly undersized Lineup.

The no head band rule?
Playing him off the bench?
Planning on playing him some time at the PF spot?

Three strikes - and he hasn't even played a game for you yet!!

I guess Nate is dropping the headband rule for G. Wallace.
