The NBENFANT Thread (NBA): Offseason Edition

Post#1 » by JasonStern » Wed Feb 8, 2012 1:21 am

so... the blazers agreed to retain chris johnson for the remainder of the season.

Edit:

This thread is used for news that isn't quite big enough for a new thread, like stuff we all saw coming, or is minor (like the original example of Chris being retained). It is also used as a similarly themed thread for random news from around the league for other teams. Like, that Jonas' guy in Toronto is looking alright, do you think the raptor fans will crash the general board this year because of him?

TSE.

In the past week, Wesley Matthews has been blocked on a fast break layup attempt by Earl Watson (6-1) and Isaiah Thomas (5-9).

it's pure comedy how badly knicks fan overrate their players (Schumpert and NOW Lin)

Well they need something, the NYC big 3 look bad and the bearded one isn't coming to save their terrible guard situation.

wow. I was serious when I posted. the blazers could have waived chris johnson without paying him the remainder of his salary, but they didn't:

...but I lol'd at agenda42's post. hat tip. :D

Oh I know you were serious, I saw the news as well. I just thought the thread idea was good for maybe when we want to discuss general nba news like a lot of nba teams have dedicated threads for such occasions.

Anyone watching the Golden State vs OKC game? Some of the worst calls I have seen going against GSW tonight. Total phantom foul on David Lee going in favor of Westbrook when GSW had the ball, what a joke!

And now the OKC Thunder got another out of bounds call go in their favor when it could have gone either way within the last minute. Incredibly lucky, good god. To their credit Durant drained a good shot though with ice in his veins when he was given the chance.

In terms of basketball, it's not really all that much money so they might as well. If they find someone else they wanna add to the roster, it wouldn't be like they're throwing all that much money away (again, in basketball terms). Besides, I would hope they waive Armon Johnson if they wanna waive anyone.

In terms of other NBA news...

Irving looks like a great player. With better teammates he would have a couple more assists, I saw him checking LeBron at the end of that game (when LeBron was trying to play point-forward), and his scoring instincts are very good. He is a 50-40-90 candidate, with solid defense and playmaking skills.

I wouldn't be surprised if soon he is considered the best young point in the league, surpassing guys like Rose, Westbrook and Wall.

Is that the Freshman/Sophomore game? Did they announce the teams already?

This Jeremy Lin kid is getting WAY more coverage than he should be getting. Granted, he's had a few good games and it's a great story, but the sheer amount and level of coverage is completely over the top. If he were doing this in Milwaukee instead of New York, you'd get maybe a few paragraphs in a ESPN Daily Dime article on him.

This explains why players want to play in big markets. Jeremy Lin has 4 good games and all the national sports markets make the kid a household name. LaMarcus Aldridge is the best PF in the NBA and barely cracks the top 10 of All Star voting for Forwards.

It will be interesting to see if getting Melo/Stat back kills the teams ball movement and neuters Lin. After hearing the guy get interview its hard for me not to root for the kid, even will dealing with ridiculous Knicks posters.

The announcers on the TNT broadcast of OKC - SAC just said that OKC and Portland were the elite teams in the West.

Whoa.
