Just saw Danny Ferry at PDX!

I work at the airport (PDX) and saw Danny Ferry about 15 minutes ago going through the security line. Didn't think much of it until I logged into the computer and read realgm as I usually do seeing the story of Paul Allen interviewing a GM today. If he was indeed interviewed, im not too horribly excited about it. Never been a Ferry fan.

That makes some sense that it could be the unknown GM. Although I thought Miller had said that no GM who was previously interviewed would be considered again.... Maybe he never got a interview in the last go around.

I love this insider info. Any other rumors surfacing who the "mystery" GM could be?

First of all, there is nothing anywhere that says he is interviewing a GM today. It says he has already interviewed one.
It has also been stated many times that none of the prior candidates for the job will be considered. Now with nobody seemingly wanting this piece of crap job, I wouldn't be surprised if they thought of that more as a guideline than a rule

Even though Portland said no one who interviewed before will be considered, I would take that with a grain of salt. Ferry for example was highly sought last go around--much like Kerr this time. If Portland wanted to come out and say "anyone who interviewed and we vetted out will not be reconsidered" that's one thing. But it seems last time there was at least Ferry who Portland REALLY wanted, but he wouldn't listen.
I can't say I am a huge fan of Ferry's either, although I guess I'd pick him over Kerr--if anything because being in San Antonio he has to have picked up something along the way. He does have experience with picks and cap space--although I wouldn't call it great. He can claim to be the only Cav's GM that successfully resigned Lebron, but he also signed Marshall and Hughes to horrible contracts.
Draft wise I'd call him fairly good. Despite not having any lotto picks, he managed to draft Shannon Brown and Daniel Gibson in the same draft, and followed up with Hickson a while later.
Trade wise, he made some opportunistic moves, but none of them really scream creativity to me outside of perhaps Mo Williams--but even than that was also more or less a salary dump from the other side.
I also count him signing Mike Brown to an extension as a strike against--even though he did fire him as his last move as GM.

He however was absolutely against firing him
http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf ... _of_c.htmlHowever, he and Gilbert were on opposite sides when it came to firing Brown. Gilbert held firm that there needed to be a change and Ferry eventually came around to agree with the decision. It was clear at that point, though, that Ferry no longer had total control of top basketball decisions.

That's a overly negative way to look at it. It's a good job, just a volatile one. Paul Allen has really shot himself in the foot with the way he has handled his previous two GM's, so that's a definite negative. However he is a rich owner, the team has a number of assets and is basically a blank slate. In that regard, it's a dream scenario as far as a GM who wants to put his stamp on a team. However because of the hot and cold relationship Allen has with his GM's, you just never know how long he's willing to stick with you, so in that regard, a GM or assistant who is currently in has a decent amount of job security likely wouldn't be interested.

I think with the way Allen has gone through GM's, and the fact that several people seem to have a hand in the pie when it comes to decision making, it is a bad job. We have one lottery pick this year, and some cap room, but we are in a small market that doesn't attract a lot of high end free agents. I don't really think I was being overly negative at all. It's not something that can't change, but as of right now, it's not a very desirable position, in my opinion.

The whole "too many hands in the pie" thing isn't as confined to the Blazers as Portland fans like to think. During this GM search, I've spent a good amount of time talking to other teams fans about their FO. A number of teams have the same type of confusing FO environments. It's honestly not as unique to the Blazers as it gets made out to be.
The Blazers have one lottery pick for sure and have a very good shot at a 2nd lottery pick. Again, it's an attractive job from a flexibility standpoint and for a GM to come in and make an immediate impact on the roster. Obviously there are some drawbacks and issues, no question, but I stand by my statement that you're being overly negative in your assessment.
And again, it's understandable that if a candidate has a stable job they're happy with, to those people, this won't be an attractive situation. So I'm not trying to be overly optimistic about the job either. Just trying to be balanced.

+1.... The Vulcan guillotine always looming above has to have every candidate scratching their head.

wizenheimer hasn't called out any of the b.s. in my posts today, and according to an unnamed source, he has an interest in the job...

Heck, I think it's a very attractive job, make sure you sign as long a contract as you caan so when you are fired after a yr or so you can travel, hit the beach, whatever on PA's dime for several years!!!
