Smart move to offer a possible 4yr$58mill deal? Will the Pacers match? Rumor is Gm Neil Olshey and Larry Miller met with him in DC tonight.

Win-now mode no less but the window is LaMarcus friendly. I hope Indy matches.

Hibbert is by far the best guy for us this year, in my mind. Perfect compliment to Aldridge and Batum.

Anyone know if we can poison this for the Pacers by front-loading it like we did on the Millsap and Matthews offers?

No because the most Hibbert can make in his first year is 12.9mill like Marc Gasol did since he only had 1 All-star appearance and never won MVP. Although if anyone can make a toxic offer it's Blazers capologist Joe Cronin.

According to Larry Coon, we can give Hibbert a signing bonus of 10% which is in no way toxic.

10% of the whole deal or just the first year? Also I am hearing 65mill tht's not possible right? I though a 58mill4yr was the most a team could offer a guy who doesn't have the Rose exception like Blake Griffin does. Any cap guys out there?

Hibbert is a good fit but the money offered scares me.

If Batum gets an offer we only have 3 days to match right? Does that make us incapable of following through with our offers to Hibbert and Asik?

no one can sign an offer until midnight at 7/11, If Hibbert and Batum are offered a contract and sign within an hour of each other we can tell Batum we are matching but hold off on the paperwork until we find out about Hibbert. At least thats what it sounds like we will be able to do.

I used to be knowledgeable about this kind of thing but haven't had time to learn the new CBA. If I understand correctly we can only offer 4 years while Indiana can offer 5 years. The max we can offer Hibbert is about $12.9 million with raises of only 4.5%. The signing bonus is 10% of the entire deal but for salary cap purposes it counts the same no matter when it's paid out.

If the Pacers don't want to match then Hibbert would gain from a sign-and-trade by getting a 5th year and the Pacers could get the rights to Meyers Leonard in return. The best result for us is the Pacers not matching.

The part that would make it "toxic" is Portland can write into the contract that the whole first year plus the signing bonus are due at the time of the contract signing so that could be around 17-18 million. Don't know if the Pacers owner has that kind of cash layin around.

I'd be stunned if IND doesn't match.

I think our effort would be better spent going after UFAs or trades.

IND has tons of caproom, and Hibbert is one of the few quality Cs in the league.

Brilliant plan by the FO. Use the cap space for the most difficult position to fill overall, and a position where blazers need a starter. Clearly Leonard is unlikely to be able to start right away. A bit worrying to offer Max to a player who hasn't avg 30+ mpg in four years.

Comparing some advanced and raw stats between RFA C's , Hibbert isn't better than Lopez, McGee or Asik in quite a few categories. Although, i do believe he has the best work-ethic of those centers, whereas the eye-test tells McGee or Asik have the best motor. Most notably, Hibbert has the worst fg% and is most turnover prone. Never having above .50 fg is downright terrible for a max contract center.

Additionally, Hibbert and Lopez are the guys most prone to injuries of the four. McGee would be the best bet to the opposite. These are of course very important factors to factor in.

I think the reasoning is that Asik hasn't shown he can play 30 minutes in a game, much less average for a season, and Lopez has looked a little worse each year since his rookie year. Unfortunately you tend to have to overpay for 7 footers in the NBA.

The Pacers met with Hibbert, too, at his home in Washington but they didn’t offer him a max contract.

hibbert is very good but he isn't dominate/elite. I don't think you pay max money to non max players but at least he has shown to be able to stay healthy for the most part. I'm pretty sure Indy will match, no way they let him go without a fight. We would be very effective working inside out though, but pending Lillards development we still have no go to guy.

Because there are so few good ones.

I don't think Indy will match unless they can move Granger somewhere as well. Perfect timing to steal Hibbert. Well done.
