Greatest Blazers Ever: Vote for #2
The list so far:
1. Bill Walton
Project Guidelines:
1. Each thread will be open for 48 hours. After 48 hours have passed, the thread will close if a single player receives a majority of the votes. If not, the top 2-3 candidates will enter a runoff period of 24 hours. During this period, you may switch your vote to one of the reduced list of candidates if you voted for someone else.
2. When making a formal vote, please include the player's name in bold. This helps me keep track. Please include a justification for your choice. It may be brief, but simply writing the name of your choice will not be a counted vote.
3. You may switch your vote, but please emphasize this in bold.
4. Please only consider each player's performance with Portland.
5. We all have our favorites, and we all have our own criteria. I believe the discussion and learning from this project will be more important than the placement of the individual players.
6. Have fun!

Re: Greatest Blazers Ever: Vote for #2
#1 for All Star games apperances
#1 for All NBA team appearances
#1 for Playoff wins
#1 for regular season wins
#1 for points scored, games played, minutes played, field goals, off rebounds, steals, win shares...
So clearly Clyde Drexler is my pick for #2.

Clyde Drexler
He was the best player on the twice WC champion team of the early 90's. Other than Bill Walton, Clyde was the only Blazer player that you could argue was a top 5 NBA player in his prime. Roy was on his way to becoming a similar quality player but 2.5 healthy years wasn't enough.

Another vote for Drexler. He has the highest peak, best longevity and is clearly the most iconic of the remaining players. IMO he should've been selected ahead of Walton, so that's a very easy choice for me.
Expect Drexler to win this unanimously.

vote: Clyde Drexler
the Blazers all-time leader in Dancing with Stars. should have gone #1, but leave it to Blazers/Blazers fans to blow a top pick on an injury prone center.

Re: Greatest Blazers Ever: Vote for #2
who finished 2nd in the #1 voting...obvious choice for 2 and it is Drexler
a championship and MVP awards are more important then longevity, so the #1 choice was right. And by the way, Drexler himself seemed to think that was true since he wore the Houston Rockets uniform at the 50 greatest players ceremony. I've never forgiven him for that. But there is nobody else to consider for #2 besides Drexler. This is a no-brainer...the real debate begins at #3

Vote: Clyde Drexler
For all the reasons he was so close to being #1, I'd think he would be an almost unanimous #2. An incredible physical talent who was multi-skilled and the best passer out of a head-down dribble in the history of the NBA.

Drexler.
He may be a Rocket through and through, and he may need to look down to dribble, he can come off as a cold jerk, and - yes - he may have been humiliated by pretty much everybody on the Dream Team... But... He led the Blazers to two NBA Finals, he was a consistent all-star, and was the best soaring scorer in the league.

He was my vote for #1 with Walton #2-- but it was a tough choice. Walton won the title, Clyde owns the books.

Not for me, the Blazers have had only 3 real franchise players in 46 years. The tough choices start at #4 when we start sorting through the dozen or so great players or near franchise players we have had.

Why don't you copy and paste so the guy doing the counting doesn't have to go looking?

Yeah, for me Porter is pretty easy at #3. #4 could go a lot of different ways (Roy, Aldridge, Lucas, Kiki, Petrie, Jerome, etc)

No. Roy is #3. Porter wasn't even a near franchise player.

If that's the criteria then Scottie Pippen is easily number 3.

Vote: Clyde Drexler
Led the Blazers to the WCF or top seed in the WC in 3 straight years. Arguably the 2nd best player in the game at his peak (2nd in the MVP voting in 92-93) and top 5-10 player for an extended period (87-93).

Re: Greatest Blazers Ever: Vote for #2
Clyde hands down. I had to vote walton in number 1 because he won us the ship but Clyde is top two for sure due to his talent level and the level of success the team had when he was our best player. Clyde and walton are in a league of their own, no Blazers come close to them in my book

Walton coming in first makes this pretty easy.
