Its amazing how long of a leash Olshey has compared to other GM's

It's odd they wouldn't let him interview at least. They don't have to let him go, it's common courtesy to let someone do the interview

do we know what his contract is?

Blazers have been a playoff team 4 of the 5 years he's been GM and the team has generally been selling tickets by putting a fairly entertaining and community positive roster out there. I think fans tend to overblow the significance of those contracts as it relates to Olsheys job security.

Olshey doesn't have the final say on the contracts that get signed, that's Paul Allen has to sign the deals and the checks.

It's possible he just wasn't interested in it so in order to save face for the Hawks of having a GM turn down their interview request, the team took the brunt of the denial. Just a theory.

Hmm possibly but you'd think he'd at least interview if only to see if Atlanta will overpay majorly for him

Usually, that "common courtesy" is when a guy is getting a promotion.

Or an upgrade, say from assistant coach to head coach, or in this case GM and vice president to president. But GM to GM straight across Portland should say no.

Wouldn't one of the interview questions be, "who do you like in the draft?" Better to keep that in house.

The new CBA makes good GM's more valuable than ever. The CBA penalizes, as much as possible, spending your way out of mistakes and forces teams to rely on internal player development. Fans should get used to other teams taking aim at our GM since he is without doubt one of the best.

How can I say the CBA discourages spending after the spending Blazers did last summer? Olshey didn't spend his way out of bad contracts, which is what happened frequently under past CBA's. Olshey believes our core of Lillard, CJ, and Nukic/Plumblee can contend if surrounded by a strong supporting cast. Olshey made intelligent use of the CBA's salary exceptions to increase the working salary base of the team so the supporting cast can be tweaked without bumping into salary limitations. He transitioned from core building under the salary cap to building a supporting cast while above the salary cap. I'm sure the NBA isn't pleased with the tactic but smart people are going to figure a way to exploit any system to their advantage. In this case you have to be smart and rich.

Olshey saved this team. He might not make the best decisions when it comes to resigning players, but he's a great drafter. I'd hate to see him go.

Let him interview after the draft. I could care less what he does after that.

If they are about to resign a whole bunch of their own players, then we might want to think about letting him go. He can sign a bunch of second unit type players for hugely stupid contracts. Let's see, he can sign the following players:

Hardaway Jr. ( 4 years 100 mil)
Sefolosha (4 years 90 million)
Jack ( 2 years 30 million)
Humphries (2 years 30 mil)
Calderon (2 years 30 mil)
Kelly ( 4 years 40 mil)

I could go on. OK maybe after the draft we consider this. he can draft decently.
