Does Dwight want to win? I don't want a player getting over $20M unless he's ultra competitive and takes responsibility for the success of the team.

not really. Portland wouldn't be able to retain Evans, so it's trading two of Portland's best players for a 33 year old Gasol.

Why wouldn’t we be able to retain Evans?

My thoughts were... We would use most but not all of the hornets money under the tax leaving us just a mil or so to lose (Jake)
We would play whoever gave us more effort between him and nurkic
And next year he would be a nice big fat expiring contract
I would also consider throwing in a second rounder and some cash

Charlotte would get some nice youth to run and try out in their little tank while they chew up all these bad contracts they have already anyway

I expect them to flip Walker for picks/prospects soon too

He doesn't have bird rights and we don't have cap space

Start by listing the biggest shortcomings of the Blazers.

1) Lack of top-end talent (Lillard and CJ are good but not top 10)
2) Lack of playmaking and leadership (We need a leader on the court that directs the offence)

Which one of these 2 major deficiencies are solved by Dwight Howard? Howard is a very good player but we are no better with him on our team. I wouldn't give up the players you are giving to get Howard unless we shipping him out in a 3-way that solves one of our problems.

This is the type of move i am looking for: I did not take any cap situation into consideration. I just like these players better than our own. We definitely don't lose any talent and we actually get younger. Never happen, but one can wish...Anything is better than Love, or Jordan! :banghead:  :noway:

Here's a LeBron trade excluding draft picks Blazers might add:

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ycodt5lf

Additionally, if allowed by CBA, Blazers could take Shumpert in a separate trade using our trade exemption. That would leave Cavs with a pretty clean roster to rebuild from.

LBJ has a no-trade clause. So, if Cavs decided they want to trade him, the deal would be on LBJ's terms. Obviously, a LBJ trade is highly unlikely, but if Cavs did trade him, their objective would be to have a roster that is in better condition than it would be if LeBron left in free agency and Cavs got nothing but the remnants of bad contracts leftover from players signed to appease LeBron. It would take a lot to convince Cavs to manage their team as if LeBron was leaving.

I like Payton... he would make a good third guard in rotation with dame and CJ. I think he eoukd have been worth a 2nd round flyer

Looking ahead to the off season, I'd take a look around the league to see if the Crabbe trade
exception could yield someone on a good contract that could be found via trade.

Creatively, its the only way to try to improve the team but let's not automatically assume
Portland can't make any moves to improve the team other than the draft.
