1. The Portland Buckaroos in pre-Blazer years was the anchor team of the then brand new Memorial Coliseum. They played in the Western Hockey League, which was a minor league. But you have to remember that in those days there were only six NHL teams. The WHL had teams in LA, SF, San Diego, Seattle, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary, and there was not that much player movement. Portland star Art Jones played for Portland for 14 years. Portland won three "Lester Patrick Cups" between 1961-71.

2. From Wikipedia: "Well into the 1960s, most significant football games hosted by Oregon and Oregon State were held at this site because of its capacity. Oregon played in 107 games at Multnomah/Civic Stadium between 1894 and 1970. The University of Washington played all its road games against Oregon and Oregon State at Multnomah Field/Multnomah Stadium until 1966 (OSU) and 1967 (Oregon)." Oddly, I don't recall attending one of these games, growing up as a sports crazy kid in Portland in the 50s and 60s. I did go to an NFL exhibition there when local fans booed the Rams for not playing Terry Baker.

1 Portland Bucaroos
2 Saw the Ducks play in Portland. Terry Baker was the guest speaker at my high school football banquet. (he was a lawyer by then).
3 Saw Cazzie Russell's Michigan team in the Far West Classic
4 5 6 - don't know
7 Luis Tiant was probably one (was the other Jim Bouton? Ball 4 author?)
I remember going to an NFL exhibition game in Civic Stadium - but don't remember the teams

Re: OT -- PDX codger quiz
I was going to let this thread slide off the front page due to lack of interest, but I think I'll post the other answers.
3. Did you attend the 1965 final four?
My mother was recently divorced, and was dating a basketball coach, so I got a seat in the coach's section for the championship. In those days the losers from the previous evening played a "consolation game," which turned out to be the game where Bill Bradley scored 58 points. I scored the game; it was very cool as a 14 year old having a bunch of coaches asking me "how many does he have now?" Gail Goodrich went for 42 in the championship for UCLA against Cazzie Russell and Michigan.
4. Have you attended a Portland Beaver game at Vaughn Street Park?
Nope. It was in my neighborhood, but it was torn in 1956 when I was 5.
5. What was the name of George Pasero's column in the Oregon Journal?
Pasero Says. The Journal was the evening paper in Portland until 1982.
6. What was the name of LH Gregory's column in the Oregonian?
Greg's Gossip. Gregory was the Oregonian sports columnist from 1921 until the early 70s. He often wrote columns unfavorably comparing modern players to oldtimers. He refused to refer to Oregon State as the "Beavers" because that mascot name was stolen from the Portland Beavers; he would refer to them as the Orange men.
7. What two pitchers went a combined 23-1 for the Portland Beavers in 1964?
Sudden Sam McDowell had a monster fastball, and solved his control problems in 1964. He went 8-0 with a no hitter, a one hitter, and an 18 strikeout game, and was an absolute sensation that Summer before being called up. Meanwhile, Luis Tiant went a relatively quiet 15-1 ("I peetch, ween" was the newspaper quote). When Tiant was called up, the Indians sent down Tommy John. Those three pitchers went on to win 658 games in the majors.
