The optimism from all of the players is really striking, and seems real since its coming from everybody. A lot of bigs who can play, wings who can pass the ball, and Simons being something special. These are not random comments, everyone on the team is saying the same thing.

The only thing that doesn't ring true is Whiteside as a point center. It is also a little concerning that there is only one true PG on the roster. Very interesting year.

Suns fan here

Would you trade us Simons for Kelly Oubre Jr?

Kelly fills a wing void you guys have and need, he's a good 2 way player, Suns need a pg of the future you have Dame/CJ.

Oubre helps you win now and is young for the future

This is the wrong place for this question, sunsfever68...but

Some things to take into consideration:

1) KOjr makes 15M/season over the next two seasons. Simons will average about 2.75M/yr during that span.

2) The Blazers have had plenty of years of meh 3pt shooting from the SF position. I don't think they would want to commit to a young player that shoots worse than Aminu at the SF position...let alone is a much worse defensive player.

3) If you are looking for your PG of the future, you'd be taking a pretty huge gamble on Simons. Despite the Blazer FO putting a huge amount of expectations on him, he still hasn't shown much...especially when it comes to running a team. He's almost certainly a worse PG right now than Devin Booker.

I don't believe the Simons hype as much as some people--to me he just seems like another less talented, but similarly skilled guard lined up in the logjam of Lillard/CJ. So I'd be inclined to at least listen to something surrounding Simons for Oubre...doubt I'd go for it, however.

I wouldn't be to sure the Blazers FO has [near term] expectations of Simons to be a PG. I believe I heard Stotts say he wouldn't rely on Simons at PG against a top tier ball pressure defender.

Like you said, we don't really know. We will soon see what the plan is.

NO said he is open to offering a 2-way deal to one of the players in camp. The Blazers have a couple PG's in camp. I don't remember his name but one is a combo guard like Lillard and CJ who previously had a 2-way contract with another team.

Speaking of 2-way contracts. NO spent a lot of time talking about Jaylen Hoard. One of the things he said was he doesn't expect anything from him this year. But still, he talked a lot about him. I don't remember him saying anything about Little. You would think Hoard was our 1st round pick.

Would be kind of a sad irony if this team really did start to win titles after Paul's passing. We came so close during Paul's reign.

my bad for posting it here

1. you could throw in salary filler
2. Everyone's 3 pt %'s for the Suns should go up 2-3% just bc we added ricky Rubio at pg. The suns literally had the worst point guard rotation (Isaiah Canaan, Jamal crawford, Deanthony melton, elie okobo) running the show probably ever. No dribble drive penetration, no passing ability from any of them. Oubre has good form on his shot. Much worse defender? Kelly is a pretty solid defender in space and off ball. he's definitely not terrible.
3. suns either need to get that one in the draft or get someone who's stuck and hope it works out like Simons.

Who knows if Olshey really believes it, but he said Simons is as talented as any player he has drafted in 17 years. I think he said 17 years. Does that sound like Olshey will trade him for Oubre? By the way, I like Oubre. Why do you want to trade him?

It would take something like Kent + Simons for Oubre + Filler. I don't do that trade. I think Simons is going to be a tremendous scorer in this league, and if he fills out and develops quickly he could allow us someday to trade CJ for a star forward and slide Ant into CJ's role. Getting ahead of myself there, but its a possibility.

I don't believe Blazers will trade Simons and it's less likely we would trade Bazemore. Bazemore and Hasson are 2/5ths of our best lineup. They are 95% of a successful off-season. A trade involving Bazemore would need to be a blockbuster in favor of the Blazers. Why would anyone want Bazemore enough to make it worth it for the Blazers?

Jay Allen
@PDXjay

.@24Bazemore on @mariohezonja at point-forward: "That guy is so fast. He gets rebounds & you run up the floor & here he comes zooming by you getting all the way to rim. Makes great passes. It's going to be really good for us. I think he's going to be a really big sleeper for us."

Ho good or bad Mario looks is gonna be based on how good he shoots from 3.

Like Batum and Wes he can be a completely different player based on how well he shoots. It's crazy his shot hasn't translated over to the NBA

I still can't believe Whiteside and Collins are gonna be on the floor together so often. They compliment each other's games so we'll. Hopefully Zach bulked up and stays out of foul trouble.

I think with Baze Mario and CJ/Ant we got enough secondary ballhandlers to not need a traditional backup PG. We were never a high passing team to begin with last year. I actually think our asts will go up now that the brick layers are gone( Aminu Harmless).

NO and Stotts must agree. Stotts says he won't play Simons at PG against a ball hawk defender. So, there must be a plan, especially if we want to maximize the time Lillard and CJ play together.

I notice the argument against the Blazers has morphed from they can't win with 2 small guards, that are a duplication of talent, that can't defend; to they have nothing other than Lillard and CJ. And, Aminu, Harkless, and Turner have morphed from they suck schweddy balls to Blazers can't replace them. I think Bazemore, Whiteside, and Collins are going to be a great supporting cast. Hood, Mario, Simons, Tolliver, and Gasol will provide great depth to our supporting cast.
