All Star Voting

The Blazers announcers told us before the game last night that Lillard is 3rd among guards and Melo is 6th among forwards. Why is Doncic in the guard category when he's a SF? Is that how the league ensures he makes the All Star game since there are a number of quality forwards (LeBron, Leonard, George, etc.? Does the league want Doncic as a starter, along with LeBron and Leonard? Lillard could actually be voted as a starter if not for that. Am I missing something? And no love for Whiteside at all.

Doncic is a guard that can play SF.
It's pretty logical that he is considered as a Guard for the All-Star vote and not as a Forward/Center

LeBron, Leonard, and Doncic are all PG's. You can call them what you want, they are among the best at running and making plays for their team. Their resume says PG.

It's been answered already, but to add more information, the Mavs starting forwards are Finney-Smith and Porzingis. Powell starts at center. Kleber is next man up at 4 and 5 in case of injuries. None of those players is a guard so it's pretty hard to see how Doncic could be considered a forward. Luka starts at guard alongside Hardaway, Wright, Brunson, Curry, or, recently, Barea. Carlisle has put a lot of different lineups out there but Doncic has been the one constant in the backcourt.

Box scores always list him as a SF so I guess I figured he was a forward, not a guard.
