Re: Trade with Kings
Ariza’s D and a lower tax bill for a couple 2nd rounders. Okay. It’s a sacrifice bunt. Maybe a single. [I liked Bazemore and Tolliver is a pro, but they were rentals.]
A bit underwhelming.
Wonder where Whiteside is going?

Well, Ariza will be a cheap serviceable backup next year, when we are hopefully relevant again. But this is basically just a garbage for garbage trade.

Almost done with the purge of Neil's disasterous 2016 signings. (don't start with me Denny)

If all NeO manages to do is cut the tax bill with these contracts and assets, it's probably time for him to go.

Re: Trade with Kings
Ariza is only guaranteed 1.8M next year....he's going to be waived after the season
Blazers save around 12M this year in salary and tax, while Olshey mortgages 2nd round picks till about 2077. Generically, Ariza is better than Bazemore, but then Bazemore in Atlanta was a lot better than Bazemore in Portland. So, verdict is out on Ariza for a few weeks. He'll probably help a little more than Bazemore, but it isn't going to make much difference
and I already see some Blazer fans pouring buckets of hope on Gabriel. Jaylen Hoard may be better. I remember when there was hope for Cliff Alexander and Louis Montero

Re: Trade with Kings
Interesting nobody has brought up Ariza wiping out Rudy Fernandez which severely impact
Rudy's career....
I'm okay with the deal for with the Dame/CJ extensions coming online soon, cap management
is going to be important. Second round picks aren't going to matter for with so many 19 years
olds out there turning pro, Portland can still find guys like Hoard as two way players. I do like
some of the banter with what to do with Whiteside for Nurk's return at the all star break makes
him available.

Good play by Ariza. Not because it severely impacted Rudy's career, it didn't.

Re: Trade with Kings
I have a question. Why did Kings make this trade? Two 2nds are barely worth anything. They do save $1.8M next year. They won't have cap room in 2020 unless they renounce Bogdanovic, which is unlikely. They must really want Bazemore and Tolliver. I'm not sure I understand why Kings made this trade. What is Bazemore and Tolliver going to do for Kings?

Re: Trade with Kings
Portland seems to have set the price for cap space and presumably Atlanta's phone will be
ringing since they have significant cap space. The kings have made these types of trades
since Chris Webber stopped playing for them. Portland at least knows what they got.

Rudy was never the same player for he became gun shy going to the basket
Basketball is a contact sport. Ariza made a play for the ball and Rudy lost his balance. Bad for Rudy, but has nothing to do with Ariza. And, if a player doesn't like contact, it's only a matter of time before he's out of the NBA.

Not cap space, Blazers will get no cap space. They save tax money and salary, and maybe they can get under the tax this year. This isn't cap space.

Gabriel's bio seems much like Skal's. From poor nations, highly regarded leaving hs, going to KY.

Re: Trade with Kings
FWIW:
ESPN is giving Portland an A- on the trade for Ariza even at 34 is going to be a useful player for
the rest of this season. Price wasn't cheap for Portland unless they buy themselves a second
round pick, won't have a second round pick for the next six drafts. Likely that partially
guaranteed cotract is going to be a useful trade asset
I was at that game in 2009 when Ariza took out Rudy. Basketball is indeed a contract sport but
today, Ariza would be facing a suspension and fine for that play.

No he wouldn't. He made a legitimate basketball play. It would be a flagrant 2 because it's normal for refs to handout flagrant 2's for good basketball plays that result in contact to the head. Dirty is when a player does something that isn't a basketball play and it jeopardizes a player. It's especially dirty if the intent was to jeopardize a player. A good example would be when Bynum clotheslined Barea.

He should have been thrown out of the league. He's a thug and it's sickening that he is on this team. I am boycotting the Blazers until he is gone.

What if he knocks Westbrook on his ass?

Re: Trade with Kings
The Ariza/Rudy play did impact Rudy's career for his back was never the same and he became gun shy
to drive to the basket. It's not a typical basketball play in 2020.
