almost pulled it off, still pathetic this team can’t pull out wins lately. It’s the stretch run and we are what 5 of the last 7 are losses? We are Really trying to give dallas our 6 spot. Really for the moves we made in the off season this year could easily be marked underachievement thus far
i think denver could fall down to 7 though, losing murray is brutal for them

Tough loss against a good team. As I've mentioned, I don't think Portland is a real threat this year, so these losses don't bother me much.

Portland is indeed 2-5 in their last 7, but they also have only had a higher SRS than their opponent in 2 of those games (the wins). I think what we're seeing is a team that has expended a lot of energy to win a lot of close games while missing key pieces run out of a bit of steam energy-wise and figure out how to incorporate "new" pieces either from the trade (Powell) or returning from injury (CJ and Nurk).

I don't see how it's pathetic that the team can't pull it out. Dame is exhausted from keeping the team far, far ahead of where it should be with major months long injuries to Nurk and CJ. We still have no release valve for him and teams are literally throwing three people at him. He's also injured. Combined with the fact he was getting mobbed tonight and not getting calls, which is frustrating to see, it's not surprised we're being beat.
It's a weird year, we have an average coach, I'm just enjoying watching them play.

every year we make excuses. With the cov trade and jones signing i’d think our defense should have at least moderately improved.. Nurk being out is just a given anymore i’m sort of over him.
Dame has had defenses thrown at him his entire career, it’s a team game and i am not under the impression that we are so unhealthy that we shouldn’t be winning more than this. As usual i think a common theme is dame/cj don’t blend together and literally trading cj for cap space and rocking a dame-powell back court would likely win us more games (though i’m obviously wanting more of a return than nothing for cj if we can pull that off). The injuries are all to guys who have basically spent their entire career on the ir so what’s the difference?
Perhaps this team just isn’t good, but to still have a bottom feeder defense after our off season additions imo warrants firing stotts in the off season if we don’t walk away with at least a competitive playoff run

Until Stotts is looking for a new job, I’m not getting my
Hopes up anymore. Played me one too many times

Ya, this recent play is inexcusable. We have lost every hard game we have played this month. Its been such a disappointment.
If we get bounced in R1 again (likely), then the only thing that will get me excited for 2021/22 is finally breaking up Dame and CJ. The issue here being that we wont get a forward of similar talent to CJ in any type of trade. Again, we are just in a horrible position in terms of balancing the team and adding top end talent.
I dont think any of the forwards with comparable talent and salary (Pascal, Hayward, Middleton, Tobias, even Randle) would be attainable in a CJ trade w/o moving serious draft capital. I just dont see any move that brings a single player of comparable talent. And a bunch of nickels for a quarter is the last type of deal we need. And with Dame 30, we dont need picks either. So, really, IDK what the hell we do.

Yes, all things being equal the two additions of better defending forwards should have meant at least the evolution to a middle of the pack defense.Yet were all thing equal? No matter the forwards, the expectation of the defense was premised on an approximation of the 2019 Nurk as the defensive linchpin, the good rim and paint protector. Unfortunately, for various reasons, the start of the season got a Nurk who missed preseason camp (where blending with the newbies was to occur), who was not in top or even acceptable physical condition, and whose mind and emotions were in Bosnia. Another problem early in the season was the defensive newcomers who were expected to help offensively more than whom they replaced were actually worse offensively.
The Nurk got injured and since the hope for Collins to be ready sometime in the first half of the season did not occur, a laterally and vertically defensively challenged Kanter got more minutes than expected going into the season. Who was his backup for 18 minutes, give or take? Either Giles, never seen in his previous two years as a good defender, but never mind he also got hurt. That left a very undersized, height and weight, Covington.
I know someone is itching to reduce these facts to "excuses." They are instead a reasonable explanation of the Blazers relative poor defensive performance.

I'm all on board with firing Stotts and have been for a few years. I just think it's unreasonable to call the team or their performance pathetic and doesn't account for humanity in the situation.

The last minute of the third quarter likely cost the team the game. Sure, there were a bunch of other things that cost them the game, but that one minute to end the quarter was a clear turning point.
I'm really tired of our second quarter let down, as well this season. I wouldn't mind shaking up the lineup a bit.
