that 2017 draft becomes a bigger disaster every year

should Portland even offer the QO at this point?

very sad for Zach and Blazers, time for Blazers to cut ties as I believe is QI is near 7 mil, we can spend that money better in other places

Portland could offer Zach something like a 2 year, 2M/year deal with team option for 2nd year. Even a simple 1 year deal for a couple of million. Forget the QO if you're the Blazers. Zach would just accept it and become UFA next summer

but a fractured foot after essentially missing 2 seasons? I mean, next season starts in less than 4 months. How much of next season will he miss?

Think you have to cut him loose. I doubt he'll be healthy next season and IIRC if he signs the QO that means we need his permission to trade him.

That's three breaks in less than a year. That's rough.

If it's a bad fracture... after all this, it could be a career ender for him. After missing so much time. He's lost too much development time at this point to end up being anything decent. Tragic man... I really liked his potential.

One of the most injury-prone players in recent memory.

Hate when guys dont make it due to injury. I thought ZC could be a poor mans Myles Turner. Just such a bummer.

Then again, I would still offer 2/5M w/ a TO. I love buying low.

There are already 20 "Zach Collins injured" threads. At what point do the mods just sticky one of them?

Yup, from what what I remember about his particular stress fracture is that it is a chronic condition that is hard to detect early but also debilitating if not caught early.

But Olshey drafted him so lets say there is at least a 50/50 chance ZC gets a 10 million dollar payday anyways

I feel bad for zach and i like him as a player but it’s time to cut him and hopefully he can recover. If he’s healthy again at some point i think Portland should leave the door open to him but he’s clearly needing time to recover at the moment

I would be surprised if that isn't career ending, in the least with portland. Very sad. Also the Blazers should consider investigating their organization for any way they might actually be cursed  in all seriousness, they should look at what they can do to minimize their injuries. Is there something in the water that is weakening bones? Are guys malnourished? Seems like there's something that could be improved.

I remember taking a lot of flack for calling Collins just a redo of the Meyers Leonard pick. Now 4-5 years into Collins career, he's a bad to mediocre bigman with consistent injury problems. So yeah... basically Meyers Leonard (sans the racist comments on Twitch).

He's a good kid, but I didn't like the pick initially and that seems to have been the correct opinion.

Please no. Save the money and roster spot for someone who can play.

Nothing against Zach Personally, hope he gets better and I wish he worked out…

But to everyone I argued with about him on draft night… I TOLD YOU SO.

You know who you are. 8-)

This post is probably going to be meaningless in a few months because Olshey will give him a 4 year 30 million deal.Hopefully he turns it around since he’s going to be a primary building block once Dame is traded.

This sucks, guy's got the skill set to be the ultimate utility guy at the 5 just can't stay on the court.

I mean there is no way any other team offers him any major contract, he has more injury concerns than the vast majority of players in the NBA.

I still think he has great potential but he needs to stay relatively healthy for 2 seasons to really show it.

I also think even with pure 20/20 hindsight there is no way we ever take Donovan Mitchell so the only player we missed out on that was vastly better that we could theoretically have taken is Bam. A few players might have been drafted later that had better careers, but were not considered great players.

You also can't throw this pick as completely wrong, it's like saying we should have never picked Greg Oden because he would be perpetually injured. We have worse luck with our big man picks getting injured period, we should probably never draft a big man because of it.

I'm just not sure what potential you guys are still seeing. He played solid defense for like half a season once and didn't dribble the ball off his knee like Meyers did. The bar was set so low, that I think people really overvalue what his potential really was. And that's all but gone at this point considering he legit cannot stay healthy. Staying relatively healthy for 2 seasons is a pipe-dream, you'll be lucky to ever see 1 season I bet.

I mean his defense was reasonable, but you are completely dismissing his fairly effective shooting. He was a more ideal Meyers Leonard in my view, kinda like a rich man's Meyers Leonard.
