Haha yeah i was expecting something along the lines of 42-28. I can think of usc games that probably came close or surpassed this one in 1 or 2 occasions (particularly 07) but it’s hard to recall any road game that was as remarkable as this.

Ohio state looks like a lesser version of themselves defensively, their edge got exposed today. Still a great win in a tough crowd nonetheless. And it kind of felt right after that 2030 reschedule for autzen that i doubt osu goes to

What an incredible game, and it couldn't have happened to one of the most arrogant group of fans in the entirety of NCAA Football.

Ducks put on a clinic on how overrated that Ohio team was.

I bet Oregon +14.5 and the under. Then I wake up to hear that both Thibodeaux and Flowe were out.

Honestly wasn't expecting the win, but if the Ducks were fully healthy I wouldn't have been overly surprised. Cristobal is a great manager type head coach - something the Ducks lacked under Helfrich. Moorhead is a proven OC. DeRuyter is a proven DC. Recruiting has been at an all-time high. Signature wins, NIL, a solid program with a great coaching staff, and getting players into the league means Oregon is likely to keep this momentum going at least until Uncle Phil passes.

Hate to throw him under the bus (but enjoy it enough to do so anyway) - how bad does Wizenheimer look for doubting Anthony Brown? Guy has his flaws - definitely not a deep ball threat, tends to commit to a QB run earlier and more often than would be desirable. But he's a stable veteran doing point guard things at the QB position. And to be fair - I was calling for Brown last season when Shough played shooked, but I had my doubts this season after the Fresno State game. Mentality was always "Trust the coaching staff. Don't start a frosh @tosu. But if Brown plays bad, you can start a frosh against Stony Brook at Autzen 1-1 followed up with an easy home game against Arizona and basically get a do-over." But other than figuring out how QB#2 is in garbage time, I'm down with Brown.

Can we s**t on the Huskies in this thread? Won't do it if it would offend anyone, but really really would love to if everyone is cool.

Hey i never saw that either. But i’ll say it, Brown is good not great. Oregon’s o line is what’s great and I think any qb would look good behind it if they play like they did against ohio state all year. Additionally Oregon’s defense is good and can keep any offense in the game enough that a semi competent qb should be able to win on offense. 28 points from ohio state is about like holding the average pac 12 school to a field goal, OSU always has tons of offensive weapons so only allowing 28 is a huge feat given these circumstances.

Brown is a guy who isn’t gonna lose the game for you but i don’t think he’s the best qb on the roster. I think that title belongs to his freshman backup Thompson but generally in this situation you play the senior win due to experience and throw the freshman in in spots to ease him into the job. But truly i think right now with the overall talent of the roster any qb would walk into probably a top 5 situation for a qb in the country right now. Brown got sacked once against all of the talent ohio state has (and it’s bountiful given their recruiting is always top 3). I think even in the sec this team this year would be built for massive success because of our front 7 & o line

Now i’ll say one thing about brown, his leadership probably puts us in the best position to win this year of any qb, but there’s much more talented qbs out there and i think ty thomason projects to be out of this word given the chance to play more. I really look forward to seeing what we can do with thompson starting next year as he clearly brings more to the table going forward. He needs the experience and to learn the plays but once he does... holy cow!

I don't have the connections I used to have with Duck insiders, but from what I've heard it sounds like Robby Ashford has passed Thompson in the depth chart. They are close in any event

as for Brown, he's in his 6th season. Granted, he hardly played last season, but he was still in the system. That experience counts; you can see him going thru progressions. And so far, he has made good decisions. He also seems to be really focused on ball security. I think that is why he has a low completion rate....he's making an effort to place passes where defenders can't make plays on the ball. Against OSU I only remember one pass that was thrown where a defender could get his hands on it; that was that deflection another Duck almost caught

and while Brown isn't Masoli or Mariotta with his feet, he is a good runner for a QB, and that has value (rumor is Ashford is even better as a runner which might be why he has an edge over Thompson)

Brown struggled some in the first game but he sure had more command of the offense Saturday. And pretty obviously, the Ducks ran a dumbed down vanilla version of their offense against Fresno. The expanded offense had Ohio State on their heels the entire game, and Brown ran it well

Overlooked, but how cool was it to see the pistol formation used correctly? I remember the Ducks passing out of it and the announcer announced "trick play!" despite that being one of the three options coming out of the pistol.

For those unfamiliar, the pistol isn't a play - it's a formation. Just like you can run lots of plays from under shotgun or center.

QB gets snapped the ball. RB is behind him and runs towards the A gap. QB then reads the defense and can either hand the ball off to the RB who is at speed, keep and use the RB as an additional blocker, or pull and then run any traditional pass play. A cool system that culminated in Kaepernick's 49ers Super Bowl run. But not something you can run 100% of the time anymore, as having all of the best defensive minds in football figuring out how to stop it usually leads to improvements in countering it.

I seem to recall you being critical of him after the spring game. But I'm a drunk, that was five months ago, and there are lots of anonymous people on internet forums I interact with. Apologies if I got you mixed up with someone else. But with two ACL injuries, a 5*, two 4* QBs on the roster, a shortened COVID season that saw Shough transfer, etc., I'm not judging anyone for having QB preferences.

The QB room is certainly interesting:

* Brown is the most experienced
* Thompson has the most raw talent/potential
* Ashford is probably the best dual threat QB
* Butterfield is probably the best pro-style QB

And there's another 4* recruit in Tanner Bailey lined up this class. Good situation to be in, but expect a few transfers once the "QB of the future" is decided on. Real question should be how long does Moorhead plan to stay at Oregon? Cristobal's o-line will get runners gaps or buy the QB time. Hate to lose a good passing QB then switch systems to an en vogue air raid or something along those lines.

Moorhead does love to run an offense where the QB run threat exists in order to draw an extra defender. From what limited footage is available, Ashford seems to be the QB that best fits his offensive schemes.

Completely agree that the Ducks will drop one Pac12 game they should have won. Just not sure if it's @ Stanford, @ UCLA, or @ Utah. Just hope it's not the Pac12 championship game.

2 weeks to get healthy at home against Stony Brook and Arizona.

Shame we're not playing @ Washington now, as even with Thibodeaux, Flowe, Mathis, etc. all injured, I'm not sure Lossington could put up 3 points on Oregon at this point.

Washington is really, really bad. Jimmy Lake's team so far have looked completely unprepared.

Oregon could blow a game for sure, i feel like if it’s anywhere it’s probably the ucla game, wazzu, or cal. Stanford used to be a bad matchup but i think our current team can play them up better as we are now bigger and stronger up front, Utah oregon seems to do well against so while it might be tough on paper i think we pull that one with ease. UCLA is the opponent who scares me the most, their style of play could pose a major challenge. I do think chip seems to not play nearly as well against an elite defense which we have and dereyter has coached extremely well against chip before so that bodes well, but still that fast explosive offense is gonna be hard to defend and even if we win that game we might lose a couple guys to injury in that one. Wsu always has a good game against us for some odd reason so that could be dangerous, and for some reason my gut says cal won’t be as easy as it should be. Cal took tcu to the wire and i think tcu will prove to be a decently ranked team by the end of the year

USC will likely bounce with Helton being gone, they has as much talent as anyone... I would not sleep on them... USC, UCLA, and ASU are all threats to Oregon.

WSU is going to be an utter greasfire... UW looked to be headed that direction. Beavs? We'll see... They shoulda beat Purdue.
