Need this bounce back win after that 4th quarter collapse last night.

Need Dame to wake up as well, he's shooting 35% overall and 23% from 3

wow just ugly Bball so far and Philly missing 3 starters (Embid/Harris/Simmons), and we are lucky to be close

Dame keeps shooting and missing, this is getting old

He seemed to be putting up shots trying to get into a rhythm, but they just won't fall. They will at some stage, but Portland needs to pick up a win in a game like this with 3 (or is it 2?) opponent starters missing.

Nice to see Ant hitting big shots to start the season.

Has McCollumn ever had a 25% FT shooting night with at least 4 attempts?

I can't believe my eyes that he missed 3 out of 4.

****, Nurkic and McCollum both sucked at the FT line tonight, and hitting a few more would have made this a closer game.

Another 4th quarter collapse, a cold Dame.. hmm these may be related.

Gotta find other ways to execute down the stretch.

the new offense looks a lot like the old offense....lots and lots of hero-ball

They were playing a much better brand of basketball at home, but for some **** reason on the road they devolve into give CJ, and Lillard the ball, and watch them go to work.

It also is seeming that hero ball is becoming less effective in general, since the refs aren't calling as many of those tick tack fouls that they used to call.

Man, the general board is a total **** **** show, I really wish they were more strict on moderation there. Only place where you can say almost anything you want about a player, but if you call anyone in the thread anything similar it's a banning.

Lillard is 100% the whipping boy of a huge chunk of the general board right now. Seems like this has been building since Lillard got top 75 on the NBA list.

Although it wasn't long ago that people were saying Lillard might be better than Steph (not true). Forum posters often become emotionally influenced

It's been feast or famine this year. Lillard is so off, we'd likely only have 2 losses now if he were on his game.

the test of an offense isn't in games where the opponents are offering weak resistance. It's when the defense is stout and working hard to deny ball & player movement. It has been the case in the Dame/CJ era that when the offense isn't flowing well, the tendency is for Dame and CJ to just go one-on-one. Offense gives way to hero-ball. It's worked pretty well for Dame over the last few seasons; he has the talent to score and his teammates move to open spots when Dame is working with the ball. Not so much with CJ because he does not have the court vision of Dame and is prone to hooplock. When CJ is doing all his shake-n-bake dribbling, the other 4 Blazers stand and watch

and when Dame is locked into a career-worst slump, there's no other elite talent on the roster to pick up the slack. Over the last 4 games, CJ has scored 84 points on 83 shots. He's averaging over 20 shots/game when he ranks 10th on Portland in TS%

***************************************************

as for the new foul rules, IMO, they suck...or at least the implementation of the rules has sucked. These are Dame's FT Rate marks over the last few years:

2015-16 - .315
2016-17 - .366
2017-18 - .380
2018-19 - .335
2019-20 - .384
2020-21 - .363
2021-22 - .209

the rules were aimed at players who used unnatural moves to draw fouls. Players who jumped into defenders vertical space. That was not the way Dame drew fouls. He used quick jumps and stops and hard takes to the hoop. The rules were targeting players like Harden and Trae Young, not Dame. Well, both Dame and Young have FT rates of 57% of what they posted last season. Harden is at 86%.

I think it was totally predictable that officials were going to let a lot more contact go. They won't want to appear to be rewarding offense the league wants curtailed. So they are overcompensating and swallowing their whistles, and I think that's hurt Dame's game quite a bit

Sums up the entirety of the general board nearly in one good picture.
