It would be a trade to setup next season.

Who do you think CJ can return?

Turner +Lamb
4
CJ + Snell
I like it for both teams.

I dont think IND moves Turner unless they go for a rebuild. And even if they are not, I dont think CJ is equal to Turner, guys like Myles are much harder to find.

Centers are kind of low in terms of value these days so it wouldn’t shock me if not for the fact that adding a guard would be sort of redundant for indy. I’d MUCH rather add sabonis, man that’d be nice to add him

I normally would agree, but Turner is a pretty unique talent. To me the centers that have value are stars (The Jokers, Embiids, etc) and the elite defenders. I would put Turner in the latter category. He is a freak on defense, being both an elite rim protector and athletic enough to not get PnR'd to death. Add in the fact he opens the floor on offense as a 3PT threat and he is the ideal non-star center in this day and age.

Sabonis is great but he would be yet another offensive centric player who demands usage and isnt doing much on D. He is decent in man in the post, but he isnt a good PnR defender.

Myles is such a phenominal defender that, like Gobert but to a lesser extent, his presence elevates the entire team on that side of the floor. He raises the defensive floor of the team as a whole IMO. He is that talented on that side of the ball. (Somewhat like what Evan Mobley has done in CLE, albeit Mobley is a Duncan level savant in terms of IQ and awareness and Turner just isnt)

I agree Love+FRP for CJ is a great return, it also allows us to sign Anfernee to a deal no matter how well he plays. Even if Love plays 0 minutes as a Blazer I am perfectly fine with trading CJ for that.

This team should have sold high on CJ after the season where they went to the WCF, but unfortunately we did not.

It appears to me that this organization is at a true crossroad, being faced with the decision to either:

A. Continue the "Treadmill" by reshuffling the deck chairs AGAIN, making many of (and maybe all of) our team except Dame available for trade , while believing that Cronin and his' new addition will improve the roster for a serious playoff push over the next 3 years (Dame's non-prime years) and not get worked by a good NBA GM in the process. Good freakin' luck with that. Oh, and have no money to work with either, after ALL THINGS DAME, has the franchise pay that hefty extension, because the moment you even consider not doing so... is the moment you will hear Dame wanting out. And KP is simply trying to steal a top prospect talent in Simons using Windhorst's blow-hole. Through my eyes, GTJ got run out... now it's Simons and Little's turn??? ALL THINGS DAME... barf.

B. Dame and Chauncey aren't gelling! I'm fairly certain of this. And with Simons almost winning WC player of the week with his recent play, Dame I think, will try to convince the Vulcans of plan A (above) and move whoever, as long as Dame can stay and get his extension. Dude bought a car dealership... he has no intention of leaving. The other choice is obvious to me... move to the Post-Dame era. I bet Chauncey wants it, along with most of, if not all the other players too. Dame or the Field??? What should ultimately decide this is the ticket holders IMO, obviously not me, but seeing the fans at those last handful of games (except last night), It looked like they were totally jacked, compared to all other games played at home this season... so there's that.

Bottom line to me is, Dame ain't winning a title here in Portland, period. I just don't see the path. Also on a side note... watched the Bucks the other night and couldn't help to notice how Mathews, Planet PAT and now Hood, all getting valuable minutes on a championship team. Thought that was interesting. DJJ also having a nice year contributing to a really good Bulls team. So you see what I'm getting at???

Dame might not be winning a ring here but at the same
Time, we move him and we have to have a real understanding that there is a really, really good chance we have a Kings or Wolves like PO and relevancy drought. We ready for that?

It also comes down to if you think moving CJ is just shuffling the deck chairs. I think given the good chance we move Dame and end up with a decade of nothing, we should at least see what a top5 pick and a CJ less backcourt can do. Hell, Dame is injured so he isn’t getting dealt this year. And are we gonna move him when declared injured free but hasn’t played?

Realistically the only way to get decent value for Dame is if he returns next year and shows out. If the wait is that long, let’s do whatever we can in the meantime to give him a new crew (And ideally a blue chip pick) and see what they can do next year.

I would say the uncertainty one way or another should the above play put makes me near totally agains loving any future pick that isn’t lotto protected.

I don’t think 2 poorly managed franchises are necessarily the path we follow. But not trading dame might already put us in that category so to get some really nice rebuilding assets might be preferable than being maybe a 7 or 8 seed a couple years until dame either declines majorly and/or nails in free agency. Unless we can find a huge trade to get another all star i don’t see the benefit of holding onto a treadmill team. Yes losing Dame would suck but a quick rebuild beats sticking in the treadmill 4 more years until we inevitably have to blow it up. Right now we have a young simons who would be a perfect rebuild piece and whatever we could acquire for dame. Rj barrett plus a minion of knicks pick gives us a great back court going forward along with future assets. Tank and hopefully get ourselves a wing and/or front court help in the draft unless the bpa is a guard. Trade dame and cj for the most rebuild pieces we can get especially maximizing dames value and perhaps even deal norm but norm is on a value deal so keeping him as a sixth man wouldn’t necessarily be terrible

About the most value keeping dame here would bring is if he’s pushing 35 and playing a chris paul phx veteran sort of role. But i think i’d rather have a bunch of chances at a star via picks and barrett than holding onto dame as his value diminishes with age

Let's all hope the market for CJ explodes when he returns from injury. Portland should do everything in their
power to showcase him between now and the trade deadline

Other teams already know he’s a solid scorer with limited defense. I don’t know how much value is left to gain other than him showing he can still play to form. If he joins the lakers or another winner and becomes a key contributor (which is quite likely with a team like philly imo) he probably becomes valuable overnight but unfortunately our backs are kind of against the wall with cj at this point given that we aren’t winning and this everyone knows 1) we are likely looking to trade him because he doesn’t fit with dame and 2) we are loaded with mini guards so rival execs know we can’t afford to hold these guards forever from a cap standpoint (60-70 percent of our cap burned on 3 guards)

His value is limited at this point, i think jerami grant is the kind of return we could expect but not a whole lot more. Norm probably holds more value around league circles with somewhat of a value contract

I’m not sure what the best course is but if cj’s balue is negative to some gms at this point as some runors suggest maybe we should wait a year until his contract gets shorter and becomes less of an obstacle to a trade.

I think the course of action will be to limit action at the trade deadline to merely getting under the tax.

This will likely be to send out Roco, who still is a useful player for a contender. There is no need to send out
both Nurkic/Roco unless they can get a developmental big in return. Unless CJ just lights up the league,
his return at the trade deadline would be lucky to bring back expiring contracts. It's better to keep him
to build up his trade value prior to the draft.

I agree with you Norm, in that the team will likely just kick the can into next summer. My biggest concern is getting fleeced by a KP type in any upcoming trade, and I also worry about Dame's say so; That spotlight is only so big ya know. My hope remains that perhaps the smarter people in the room (Morey/Agents) can convince our FO. Not likely, I know. Vulcans too comfortable with the norm to take such a chance, while there's still some left in their cash-cow.

BE has an article about Bagley plus a first for RoCo. I get the Bagley hate but I really want him at Center for the rest of the year.
Could a Nance + Nurkic (3 way trade)and the pick from above, be enough to land Turner? I would look to add Ramsey from Sac and include Snell just to get us closer to the tax line... Ramsey has genuine potential as a defense first backup who could have a lot of some juice at a low cost.

An EC and a FRP for RoCo would be a coup of a return. I strongly disagree that he could net that, but who knows.

I wonder where the Bagley for RoCo rumor originated from. I don't see any other articles about it.

He is a floor spacer who isn’t expiring and has posted elite raw and advanced defensive metrics.

Last time we played Dallas remember the defensive gravity KP had? Turner brings that.

I think Nurkic is learning alot this year from Chauncy, and you could see him struggle early on, but I think he is really starting to come around. I see the difference in his play, and it's just a matter of time before The BEAST is again imposing his will, flirting with 25/15 on a regular basis.

Point is, Turner and Love aren't making us better, and Simons / Nurkic will continue to be, and become even more dominant, if we just allow it to be.

Let's say for a minute that the RoCo 4 Bagley and a 1st goes through. Then you trade CJ and Snell for Love, Okoro and a pick. Attach those 2 picks to Nurk in a Nurk for Turner swap(possibly a 3rd team). That accomplishes about everything you can hope for without moving Dame. McLemore DSJ and Elleby become our bench guards with Ant/Powell starting. Okoro and Little lock down all 48minutes at SF then we have
Turner, Love, Bagley, Nance, Watford and Zeller at the 4 and 5. Not terrible for an on the fly rebuild.

Latest wiretap has the Pacers wanting 2 First Rounders or 1 First and a Upside Young player. So seems pretty realistic that they would demand at least one of Little or Simons… probably Simons.

Before this season, Simons was a slam dunk champion who still doesn’t get enough dunks, but who didn’t drive much. Now, he looks good both getting there and finishing. He looks “comfortable.” He looks like he’s playing within himself at 3 levels along with looking for the open man.

It is a small sample size. But he is on his way to Simons > CJ. A good looking pick (by Olshey and staff).

I think you may be exactly right, and this is the deadline trade I'm most worried about; A good GM like KP, taking advantage of our inexperienced FO. I also worry that Dame would be quick to sign off on such a stupid move... IMO. Also, Nurkic is beginning to BEAST OUT! I'm trying to tell ya'll.

Chauncey deserves an appreciation thread like yesterday for what he's been doing for this team. Little by little, he has changed our style of play on both ends, and it's really beginning to bare fruit. Tonight... What I expect to see is a VERY healthy(in top shape) CJ sprinkled in to what is already working well in Simons, Nurkic, and Little. Hopefully Nance and Powell will be playing too. Can't wait 'til tip-off.
