Shouldn't Lillard Be Okay To Request A Trade?

Post#1 » by Hatrick Ewing » Wed Jun 28, 2023 1:17 am

Hi all, I'm a Knicks fan but I'm a big fan of Dame and have always liked the Blazers.

My question is, isn't he at the point where he has built up so much goodwill with the city that if he asks him for a trade, no one will blame him? The only other comparison I can think of at this point is KG, and to me, it seems that if this goes on for longer, it could have diminishing returns for both sides.

I totally respect any NBA fan or Blazers fan who wants to build around Dame! But with Bill Simmons saying that he's "batting eyelashes" at the Heat etc, wouldn't it be better for him to ask out if he doesn't think it's going in the right direction for him versus potentially and seemingly needlessly continuing with any PR campaign that's designed to soften any blow that might be ongoing?

PS. For the record, I think a rebuild of Scoot, Sharpe, and a tremendous haul for Lillard INSTANTLY becomes one of the best in the league, and surpasses teams like Detroit, Charlotte, etc, probably even Houston.

No disrespect, but do you honestly believe this hasn’t been talked about ad nauseum? If you’re willing to spend the time to post and follow responses, you have time to read through the threads where this has been talked about for at least the last 2 months.

I feel like we need to have a stickied thread / post about Blazer fans opinion on Lillard, then just lock these outsider posts and link to the sticky post.

I'm not big into doing my job so I probably wont do this yet but I agree, these low effort posts to discuss things without showing the respect for our extensive previous discussions on the very subject are starting to really get on my nerves and at some point start to look like agenda posts rather than genuine curiosity.

Saw the thread title and immediately knew it was a another team's fan saying we should trade Dame.

Same here. Honestly just skipped over the OPs whole post, I know what it says. We all know what it says without reading it.

Gotta give the OP credit...there is NO mention of trading Lillard to the Knicks for garbo.

The ball is very much in Dame's court H.E. as far as the decision of whether he gets traded. Your observations I think are fair ones, and it is safe to say that no one would give Dame a single ounce of crap for wanting to go join a contending team. But there seems to be a misconception that Cronin will just take ultimatums from Miami or Dame. I don't think this is the case.

Like Kornheiser said yesterday, I think if Dame is happy staying on a non-contending and rebuilding team then that is fine, but also feel that it would be better for Dame, and better for the Team and Org for him to ask out. His choice though. But father time will play a factor going forward to and Dame should be aware of this; The likely multitude of possible moves to some very good contenders are likely there right now, but they may vanish as soon as next summer, should we find ourselves at this juncture once again.
