Where will Simons be playing in 2023/24?

Assuming we hold on to Dame it seems pretty clear that Anfernee Simons will be the odd man out in trying to get a big or wing.

Where do you see him playing and what kind of return will we get for him?

I could see Magic/Raptors/Spurs. The big move could involve more teams though. I'm hoping Blazers can turn Simons/Nurkic/Little/Keon/picks into a return of OG & Capela/WCJ

Would be astonished if that group of guys could return OG and one of those two bigs.

No clue on Simons value - it could be a pick in the high teens, it could be a late FRP. I just cant get a beat on his value. But either way its not that high.

Nurkic is likely seen as a negative contract by nearly every team in the league - Dallas being the only exception that immediately comes to mind as a team that may see him as neutral, or even positive.

Little probably has 2 SRP value - Keon almost certainly seen as a negative.

Hard to value players right now with all the changes going on.

I think if FVV gets a ridiculous offer and leaves, Simons becomes a pretty attractive replacement to add to that specific roster. Spurs/Clippers might have some interest in Nurkic, or he's packaged in a trade bringing back a huge salary. I remain hopeful they can at least get a name they have been after for awhile.

I can definatley see TOR being interested in Simons - he actually is a great fit w/ 2 forwards that have some creation skills in Barnes and Pascal.

Issue is they dont really have a package - Masai is thinks OG is a HOF talent (Slight sarcasm...slight), so he wont be on the table most likely. Short of that they could cobble a few guys together to match salary (Boucher, OPJ, Thad) and for incentive maybe we get a pick or Precious - which is pretty underwhelming.

Before the draft I thought maybe he'd be a good fit in Orlando. Now, not so much. I feel like most teams would like a 3 and d guy for 15 mil. Simons has no D and costs almost twice that. I can't imagine anybody giving up a useful big man for him.

Yeah we should just cut him  Maybe Dame should mentor him on defense?

1. FVV gets snatched away. Age 29, 6'1, and rumors of getting serious money that Toronto won't want to spend given GTJ opting-in and he, Siakam and OG getting paid next year. They were already thin at guard depth. Though Barnes and Siakam can initiate a bit, they're not guards.
2. Ant fits their Barnes timeline. OG does not initiate nor is he a shot creator for others. 3 and D. And he just hired new representation getting ready for next year. $$$.
3. Ant + Nas + 1 or 2 picks after paying off Chicago.

Dame stays in Portland in a 3-guard rotation and Thybulle plays D at 2-3 positions and hitting corner 3's.

[The only way that Scoot is included is to send Ant + Nurkic + Scoot + Nas for Siakam and OG ... with Toronto getting younger, overall.]

Depending on what we do with Dame I’d say

Portland
Toronto
San Antonio
Utah
Chicago

In that order

Oh he has. Taught him everything he knows about defense.
It took almost a whole afternoon too.

I think he'll be in ORL or Portland. San Antonio is a real possibility. I just depends on a Dame trade, we will desperately need shooting if we lose Dame. Don't rule out TOR, a Boucher/Achiuwa package is appealing. Achiuwa could be our "other forward" and Boucher is a perfect back-up.

I haven't read the new CBA yet. In years past there has been a get rid of one guy for free provision. If we trade Dame and we can't find a take for Ant, I would be fine with cutting him if there's such a provision that allows for that.

How about this?

Portland:

trades: Simons
receives: Issac, Drummond, own pick returned

Portland clears up the log-jam at guard, gets a long forward who can defend, a big center who can defend the rim and rebound in Drummond and our pick back from the Bulls

Orlando:

trades: Suggs, Issac
receives: Simons

They desperately need shooting. Drafting Black, who can't shoot, as their PG of the future is fine enough but they still have Fultz, Suggs, Anthony at PG, none of whom shoot well either.

Chicago:

trades: Drummond, Portland pick returned
receives: Suggs

The Bulls get a young PG to take over from Ball

Dont think ORL gives up Suggs for Ant.

JI and that DEN FRP for Simons probably is closer.

Chicago wouldn't shock me if they're looking to move on from derozan

Jake Fisher said recently that Simons didn't have much value, at all. Or at least that teams were not calling about him

he may have ok value in a larger trade as filler salary to meed CBA rules. But it won't be leverage value. And that seems to be common sense

I think the advent of the 2nd apron is going to dramatically change the definitions of value for limited players like Ant. He's logically more suited generically to a 6th man role than a starting role. But he's got a contract now for 26M/year. He's the kind of luxury high spending teams use to buy...before the 2nd apron. I think teams will be paying big bucks for core players and squeezing value out of role players. Ant is not a core player

the Warriors just dumped Jordan Poole. The Clippers just declined the option on Eric Gordon, and reportedly are aggressively shopping Norm Powell and Marcus Morris, and Powell is arguably better than Ant for 8M/year less

I think Portland will find a very limited market for Simons. I'd hope for DDR, but I'm growing pessimistic about that option

If only we had someone on our coaching staff who excelled as a defensive point guard in the NBA who could teach him.

Portland now where he should be. Blazers need to keep their young picks for the long term when they work out this well. Simple enough.
