As I asked in the free agency thread, does anybody know what to make of the promising start or dud seasons that followed? Was he just getting minutes/shots on bad Charlotte teams? I seem to remember people believing he was a promising point, but success has not followed him anywhere. Injuries, seemingly, have.

Is a one year deal really a huge issue though? If he looks bad who cares, this team is not trying hard to win next season. If he looks great we picked him up for nothing and can then sign him to a longer deal.

He might get more of a chance on the Blazers to show something, I don't see a downside at all.

Oh, I don't either! I said elsewhere I potentially like it. The team needs more stability in the backcourt. I'm just curious why his career has faltered.

Bantons contract is only partially guaranteed. Maybe Graham and Barton will Duke it out at TC for a bench spot.

I'm going to assume it means that Simons is very likely to get moved in the foreseeable future. And that would be the right thing. I would prefer to see either Scoot breaking out or he keeps sucking and Blazers get more ping pong balls rather than Ant keeps doing what he's been doing the last years.

There are few people in the league more of a chucker than Banton - Graham is one of those few.

Tim, I don't think he was injured last year...I think Pop just chose to play Jones, Vassell and Sochan over Graham at the PG spot.

It’s our 3rd/4th string spots. People are getting way too attached to the significance of events like this

Are we sure that the Graham deal is non-guaranteed\training camp deal? Seems to me that if that was the case, that would have been announced by Woj in his tweet, as he has done with other similar deals. My guess is this is a one-year guaranteed deal, no reason to hide details if it was not.

#1 Could be the plan is Graham to compete with Banton for the last roster spot, given that Banton can be released and POR only has to pay $217k if they cut him before opening night.

#2 Could be they plan on executing a multi-player trade where they are taking back fewer players and they needed to sign Graham today to ensure he did not sign anywhere else.

#2 would be more exciting, #1 is more likely.

This is truly a non move, I don't care either way. His fg% stinks and always has. Not a huge fan of banton either so we will see who wins out if it's a competition

I'm not attached to it, I could care less what they do with backup pg. If they bring in a defensive 3rd Stringer I'd be all ears but any chuckers aren't of interest to me tbh

This also might be an indication a trade is coming and this was a pre-emptive move because a guard might be being traded. If Simons is truly being traded this move makes more sense because we would be losing a guard.

This trade seems like nothing, but with rumors of a potential Grant to LA deal... I think it makes our 3rd string PG in Banton a very tradable player that could be included as the perfect filler. What if the final deal looks like this? I think it saves the Lakers the couple million $'s that I think they are trying to achieve... for Bronny.

LAL trades: Rui / Russell / FRP
PDX trades: Grant / Murray / Banton

I like it for both teams because for Portland: Russell expires, but he also would make our PG rotation rediculously good for a year adding him to Simons and Scoot , but I'd have to imagine a buyout would be much more likely. Rui may or may not be a long term solution at PF, blending him with the already assembled group of Ayton, TL, Reath, Cling-On and Walker should also be quite good. Add in the rest of the ingredients in Sharpe, Deni, Thybulle and Camara.............................. JUST DO IT!

RIP CITY!!!

Devonte’ Graham‘s one-year, non-guaranteed training camp contract with the Trail Blazers includes Exhibit 9 language, but not Exhibit 10 language, Hoops Rumors has learned. That suggests Graham probably isn’t planning to join the Rip City Remix (Portland’s G League team) as an affiliate player if he’s waived by the Blazers this fall.

Still an odd signing, why even bring in competition like this when you have a full roster? I guess they could cut Banton before the season and only pay out $217k. Still makes trading for him in the first place kind of a bizarre move\waste of resources.

I think that second is top 55 protected, not too huge of a loss

Who would we rather have Banton or Graham? Graham is a lost soul and Banton is a chucker

Neither, rather they took a swing at a young guard in the draft, rather than guys who pretty much are who they are.

I get it. But we need a competent vet pg.
