Re: Shaden Sharp out with shoulder injury
same shoulder he injured in SL his rookie season
this could be a chronic problem
solves the issue of which guards to start. It will be the pair of Blazers who were the worst 2-man combo on the team last season. Scoot/Ant were outscored by 20.4 point's/100-possessions last year when they shared the floor. They both need the ball

Who starts is overrated. It's all about the total minutes, and matchups.
That said, starting Ant and Scoot against the opposing team's best backcourt is a recipe for early deficits.
If Chauncy had the bullocks, he'd start Matisse with one of those two and balance out the starting five. It would involve telling one of Ant or Scoot, their agent and Management that he's "demoting" a "star". I don't it happening.

Matisse is also hurt and will miss the fan fest

Re: Shaden Sharp out with shoulder injury
I HATE this so much. I really want Sharp to turn into a cornerstone of this franchise, but his potential is turning into the Spruce Goose (just can't get airborne).
If he doesn't have a breakout year, the Blazers are going to have to consider whether to sign him to an extension.
And in the Draft, if they don't win the Capture the Flag race, guards dominate the top of the talent pool. The Blazers are going to have to go with Best Player Available, and Sharpe may be in the outside looking in.
Hopefully the opposite of all of this is true.
Sharpe comes back in 4 weeks, and plays over 78 games
The Blazers draft Flag
Sharpe earns an extension
The Blazers become a contender

Re: Shaden Sharp out with shoulder injury
Probably the worst type of news for a franchise needing any kind of top-end talent. Sharpe probably has the most upside to achieve that, but this is the point that starts the hand-wringing…
And Labrums are no joke. This is cartlidge that basically structurally binds your shoulder. They can be pesky, long-term, with pain that sometimes never goes away completely. However, the fact that it sounds like he DOESN’T need surgery is super good news, all told.
If injuries end up being chronic, luckily there is likely another SG at the top of the 2025 in Ace.

Re: Shaden Sharp out with shoulder injury
Maybe Cronin & co (Schmitz) are not as good of talent evaluators as people think they are?
Still some hope for Scoot, but playing alongside Simons won’t help.
Maybe this is just a blip for Sharpe, but the chronic injuries and roller coaster play is not making me have much hope that he ends up as anything more than a mediocre rotational player, looks great one night, pedestrian the next and misses 15+ games/year with an assortment of ailments

Scoot would be a better option with those other 4 starting. He would at least try to get the others involved. Simons calls his own number way too much. Last season, when Simons and Grant were on the floor together it was those two taking turns hogging the ball and going ISO with everybody else standing and watching

Re: Shaden Sharp out with shoulder injury
And this is a fun scenario, who are the backups? Thy? Banton? And you want to give Simons away for a bag of footballs? Think about it people. I'm guessing if Chauncey is smart he will split them up, split the time whatever. In my mind Simons and Thy and Scoot and Banton would be the best rotations.

Are Toronto fans still gung-ho for Sharpe? Maybe now is the time to cash in.

Re: Shaden Sharp out with shoulder injury
I see Deni Avdija as the co-facilitator in that line-up with a lot of Deni/Camara pick and roll action with Simons and Grant lining the three for kick-outs and Ayton in the dunker spot drawing the opposing center away from the rim.Wizenheimer wrote:Village Idiot wrote:I would start Simons, Deni, Camara, Grant and Ayton

There are like 5 top tier talent players in the 2025 draft along side Cooper Flagg. The goal should be to get into the top 5. Even if we lose out on Flagg, there are other players that are franchise changing.

Agreed. Are you saying the Blazers should pick the best player in the top 5 regardless of position?
