Mike Brown as Coach?
With the news of Mike Brown being fired from the Kings - what would everyone's opinions be on him if hired by the Blazers for next season?
In looking at his resume, Id be happy with him as a 'retread' coach.

It seems to me that every time he has gotten fired, it was after his team 'overachieved' relative to the talent level & then the GM made roster moves that made the team worse.

Can’t be worse than Billups.
That would be tough to do.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

I have no idea why Mike Brown would want to sully his +% NBA head coaching career with at least 2 seasons of guaranteed losing basketball with the Blazers.
I've never really been a Mike Brown fan, but that being said, he would 100% be an improvement over Chauncey.

We could bring Nate or Stotts back and enjoy the RealGM return of d-train or Epicurus, respectively. Our board is severely lacking in quality condescension.

I am not thrilled with a Mike Brown hire I would much rather take a 2 year deal with someone that might be better. Mike Brown sounds like Stotts 2.0 and he might be even slightly worse.

I think he'll get some job offers that might be better than Portland

Cruel question
Keep Chauncey or hire Brown?

Re: Mike Brown as Coach?
Just out of curiosity who are other potential coaching candidates? Are there assistant coaches ready for a promotion? College coaches looking to move up to the big league? Is there a Euro league coach who might be worth a flyer? I believe that getting the right coach next season to be one of the most important things this team needs to consider.

Former player and experienced as an assistant. Definitely worth a look.

Once again, its likely Portland won't be the most attractive opening on the coaching front for
next season.

The Blazers shouldn’t be in the market for a “splashy” coaching hire. Just hire the coach that will do the most with the roster he’s given. If you hire a “name” coach, you bring expectations that almost guaranteed cannot be met. You are also very likely not hiring the best person for the job, just the most known to get a headline … (like Rivers for Milwaukee).
Bring in a coach with a vision, developmental plan and a system. I don’t care what his last name is.

Mike Brown got fired because Sacramento continues to get worse ever since they got the 3rd seed in the west a couple of seasons ago.

I’m also a fan of poaching lead assistant coach’s from winning franchises with strong coaching talent. Any assistant under Pop, Spo, Stevens/Mazzulla, etc… get in the front of the line. Billups was so untested, hired on name only at both spots, and came from a losing franchise like the Clippers…. There’s no system/pedigree there.

Most of that is on the GM IMO

How is that any different here? People overvaluing our talent and seem to think we have this playoff caliber roster and we just need a new coach to get us there.
Besides, the core of Fox and Sabonis that carried the team to the 3rd seed two seasons ago are still there. All I see is that I was right when I said two years ago that the Kings overachieved.
